Default Forced membership

If THT started making members pay to access the site would you still be a member or would you go elsewhere for your fill?

I ask because there are "private, members only" sites out there and am wondering how many would stick it out.

Same $?
I'd still stay.
I believe you are directing this to the non paid members.

The Verado Club has a Free section.
For more in depth info there is a paid section.
There are Certified Verado Techs there to help.
None of it is a Forced Membership.

I wouldn't pay. Why pay when there are other sites that are free and have very knowledge members as well. This is the first forum that I have been part of that requires members to pay to use the classifieds. I refuse to pay to use them when there are just as good if not better places to use to sell goods.

Yes this is directed at the non paying members. I don't begrudge them for not paying, they pay by seeing all the adverts. Just wondering how these members feel or how strongly they are committed to the site.

I'd stay...last time, somehow they dinged me for 3 years of membership and I wasn't bothered.

Lots of good information to be found for a tiny price.

The knowledge base here is nearly priceless, however it would irk me if I was required to have to pay monthly or annually.

I have paid in the past for classifieds. I would likely pay if forced because it's entertainment. I won't pay to "support the site" . 90% of my usage is on forum runner so no ads.

I'm apparently living in the dark ages. Can you enlighten me to the whereabouts of said sites as good or better for selling boating/fishing goods?

Give them a free membership, if they are worth a chit they will stay around and pay... End of story.

It would depend upon how much it cost - $10/yr probably, $25/yr see ya later.
We have several version of pay on here already, but they are sort of voluntary.
The truth is, when forums switch to pay sites they generally whittle down to much smaller membership sites - which can be good and bad.
Since THT is owned by a large company, I expect they have done the analysis and found that the advertising payments are greater than the membership fees would be.

Long as the Bilge is included, I'll stay. Lots of good people down there.
