Default cingular

For what it's worth. If your thinking of getting a cingular cell phone service. or switching to cingular. do yourself a favor and consider another carrier!.I wont go into the long details.but I just dealt with the worst ,most incompetent ,most crooked. and most uncaring customer service dept.(including a manager) I've ever dealt with absolutely brutal ! Just thought I'd try to save some of you the same nightmare I just went through.

I miss the old AT&T Wireless....they were much better then the new Cingular...

But, a 17% discount every month through my company, and the ability to buy a phone on eBay and pop the SIM in lessens the pain. I'll stay with them, but I'm out of contract and plan to stay that way.

Is that true. Your sim card is all you need to activate and use a new cingular phone. I think I'll be on ebay looking for a new phone. I thought they had to do some internal stuff.

Verizon is the only company I would consider. Never a problem. I use my phone all over the country and rarely encounter a problem.

I'm old AT&T also and still am. I went a year without a contract and decided I wanted new phones. Like you I"m on a company plan so they had to sell me new phones (at a great price I must add) AND keep me on AT&T. I now have a one year contract that I'll let lapse till I need a new phone again.

I picked up two Motorola V551 phones in October for $75 each...at the time a very good deal. And it IS nice to just move the SIM card over to activate the phone. I'll stay AT&T as long as I can.

As a side note. The Cingular rep who took my order was very cordial and knew her stuff. Maybe it's a difference with the commercial accounts?

My son in law was an att salesman in Idaho and moved to Atlanta with Cingular after the sale. He's told me that things are slowly getting better but the changeover was a b*tch!!

In the old days, the carrier had to change your ESN (Electronic Serial Number) in their system for the phone to work. Nowadays, all your information is stored on the SIM...wherever it goes, your number goes.

Their little trick now is to "lock" the phone to Cingular or T-Mobile, etc...so only their SIM works in their phone. Unfortunately for them, you can find unlocking software all over the web. Right now I'm using aNokia 6230 and the Admiral has a Nokia 6102. Both were "locked" to Cingular. Both were unlocked by me in less than 30 seconds. They work perfectly with our AT&T SIM cards.

I have generally had good experiences with Cingular, but I have never been to a store, I bundled it with my bellsouth bill and only call them on the phone. My phones were even shipped to my door.

I changed phones...from SunCom to Cigular when they did. I went with a 2 year service...phone sucked....went back they did some software stuff and it works much better. I have to reboot maybe 1-2/ month...Wife has a 4 yo phone with SC new Cingular...unlimited for 39/ month....making that phone last forever...the deal goes when the phone craps out.
