Default FL skiff challenge

I doubt I am the first one to make a thread about this, I couldn't find another one. It's going down on Facebook right now

Non of them could handle the Everglades Challenge. Anyone can run an outboard.

Saw on FB where HB was at the police station. Trying to get out of the storm I assume?

From what I understand, they didn't have to start at the same time. Just timed from the point the boat is dropped in the water. I think I read where Panga was trying to time the weather.

I suppose that makes sense. Last time I looked at the map YF and HB were closing in on the keys and Panga was up near Bradenton. The Facebook page hasn't said much about Panga either.. they got a nice looking rig tho...

Legit reason to quit. Maybe break out a chart and use a compass?

Since I have to much time on my hands I have been following the Skiff Challenge closely. I think it is amazing that Yellowfin is doing so well running a tiller. That has to be rough. Over 900 miles and going strong.

I thought the same thing, I can't imagine running a tiller that far for that long.

Am I the only one that thinks this shouldn't happen on a custom rigged boat for a publicized challenge?

Or am I underestimating how difficult it is to rig equipment properly and triple check everything before attempting to making a run like this?

I may be incorrect on this...

But as I understand it, they took blue water over the bow basically submerging the electronics.

Even the redundant system had water intrusion.

Being a skiff makes it extremely difficult to rig electronics somewhere they are protected. I'm sure they learned a lesson for next year.

Sadly I figured with the design of the panga, I figured it would have been much better in the rough water. Glad they're safe and I find it still impressive that the tiller handle YF won.
