Default 9mm AR build

I'm completing a 9mm AR build with a dedicated 9mm upper (Matrix Arms) and lower (New Frontier Armory). I also have a Kaw Valley barrel and Matrix Arms Handguard. The one thing that I cannot find info on is barrel nut torque specs. All I've read is, unlike a standard AR platform, you simply tighten the nut down and attach the handguard. Any suggestions?

Don't know why the pic showed up upside down. Here's a better pic.

Can't help you but nice build. I have a PSA pistol 9mm lower that takes Glock mags. Waiting for the upper I want to get back in stock. Have fun with it

Is this a toy gun build with the red plug at the end of the barrel?

Sure is. I'm gonna let my daughters use it the next time the kids on the street want to play with cap guns.

I figure I will have about +/- $800 in it when I'm done. I'm still waiting on the 9mm BCG to show up in stock. That is all I have left before completion.

The 9mm does not have a gas system does it? Aren't those direct blow back system correct?

I will take a stab at this

9mm is a little cheaper to shoot than 556 or 223. Some people like keeping ammo supply simple (same as pistol they carry)

I believe that barrel is 16 inches. The minimum length is 16 required for all rifles unless you have a tax stamp for she..

Yes, it is blowback, which will require a different (heavier) buffer and possibly spring setup than standard 223/5.56. Why 9mm? It's different, a LOT lighter, accurate at shorter ranges (100yrds) and cheaper ammo (which I have a ton of since most of my handguns are 9mm). I built it with a 16" barrel because I'm not a fan of pistol length AR's and I don't want to have the hassle of registering a SBR.

RipTideBBQ, your are building the gun that I have been thinking about for a couple of months. I will use the PSA (Glock 19) lower and upper. Maybe a CMMG or YHM upper. My question is about the BCG. Who's are you using?

Interesting build and question. I would imagine since you do not need to line up gas tubes its almost like you can pick and chose what you think is good.

Here is a thread on AR15 discussing the range of an AR due to differences in how things line up.

http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=272930

Anywhere from 30 plus to 80 really... just depends on how it ends up lining up. But in this case thats not a issue. I imagine if I had to guess any thing north of 30 pounds would be the way to go. But just not too north. I think I would do 30 loosen then return to 30 again and maybe even do 35 the third time and call it a day. Then recheck after maybe 100 rounds if your worried about this. Using proper lube/anticorrosive of course. But heck.. I really am just guessing. But if 30 HAS worked on a AR then why not on a 9mm version?

Good luck!

Ricky, I ended up purchasing a BCG branded by/for MAS Defense. 9mm bcg's are getting impossible to find, and I almost hit the button on a YHM BCG. I saw these on their website some time ago, but were sold out, as usual. I happened to call them this morning and they said to check the website later in the day. They showed up in stock when I checked at lunch. Lots of good reviews on them. I should be shooting by next Friday. In regards to your upper, take a look at Matrix Arms uppers. I got the side charging upper. I've heard they are much more user friendly, especially when it comes to gas blowback in your face.

I can't wait! By the way, here is a pic of the side charging handle. It is much bigger than the picture shows.
