Default Time for a convertible (car seat)....

Granddaughter is 6mo old, spends a lot of time traveling with "Nana" and "Papa," and has almost outgrown the current infant seat system. When my youngest was this age (12 years ago), we went with Britax for the seat he would use until he reached booster seat age. Obviously, safety is the primary concern, with comfort, adjustability, and durability also a consideration.

I still like Britax, but in the same price range, I also like the Recaro convertible seats. Anyone have any personal experience with the current versions of these seats?

Thanks in advance!

My wife had researched everything out there as far as safety ratings go. I have 3 kids under 5 and they are all in Britex seats. I can't speak for any other brands, but these seem to work well and the kids seem comfortable in them. Good luck!

We've only bought britax. They hold up well and have enough padding to keep them comfortable. Last pair we bought went from car seats to booster seats. The only thing I've had to do with them is double stick tape the metal that holds the center strap to the bottom of the seat. They always rattle so I stick it to the bottom of the seat to stop the noise.

We have always used the carseat that comes with the kid. Whenever we pick-up or they drop off one of the younger grandchildren we swap the seat out of their vehicle. That way you have a mom approved carseat but only when you need it.

The Britax click-tight system is awesome. The seats are a little heavy, but can be installed extremely quickly and get top safety marks. They will go forward facing up to 65lbs. My 2 year old is 30 lbs and 3 ft tall, so we'll be with this seat for a while.

We also purchased an inexpensive Safety First seat for airplane travel. It's nowhere near as nice as the Britax, but it is light and fits in even the narrowest airplane seats. It's also nice not to have to rent a car seat with unknown history when traveling.
