Isn't there a BPS in that new square up near Bucklands?

Was up at Cabela's in Dundee, MI and the head of their hunting clothing told me that that rumor of BPS buying Cabela's is just a rumor. Supposedly the rumor started because of a large block of Cabelas trading hands on the exchange one day. I just couldn't see the Cabela brothers selling out to BPS. Is Dick Cabela still alive?> He must be 90 yrs old.

Dick died a couple years ago. None of his kids want anything to do with the business.

Unfortunately, I had a similar experience recently. A one-day sale on 12 gage 00 buck, I tried to order online at 6am, already sold out. I've quit buying firearms from them after dealing with a cranky sales guy mocking me out. I get much nicer assistance from Sportsmans Warehouse personnel.

But I still like there stuff, esp fishing and camping equipment, just through with considering firearms and ammo from them.

My recent experiences with Cabela's have been horrendous. I ordered a scope and scope rings, and they sent the wrong mounts. They did send the right mounts after I sent the incorrect ones back. Last week I went to the local store to take advantage of a sale, and they had none of the advertised item in stock. No raincheck, either(the ad said limited quantities, but that would lead you to believe they had at least one-but they did not). The last two days I have been trying to have them mount the scope on my rifle and bore-sight it(a service their website says is available in every store). I have called the local store 4 times to attempt to find out more, and they either let the phone ring off the hook, or eventually pick up after many, many rings. I ask the person who answered about having the scope mounted, and of course, they don't know anything about it. They transfer me back to the gun counter, and no one ever picks up the freaking phone.
I just called the corporate customer service line and was on hold for more than 10 minutes without anyone picking up.
My scope and mounts are going back to Cabela's, and I will be taking my my money and business elsewhere.

In my experience "limited quantities" usually go to store employee's or their friends.

Not a fan of Cabelas. Used to love them and buy a ton of stuff from them. But these days I'm turned off by the quality of their merchandise and how high their prices are. Every fishing rod or reel I've bought with the Cabelas name on it has been crap. I bought a boat cover from them not too long ago that was crap. Got less that two yrs out of it. It failed, they replaced it free of charge under warranty (but they were a PITA to deal with) and the replacement failed in the same amount of time. Didn't want to waste my time dealing with them again. Saw an ad for a smoker at Cabelas. Marked down $79. Thought it was a great deal. Then I realized I can get that same deal every day else where.

Seems they changed for the worse once they started opening all their stores. Just my opinion.

I was in the Wheeling, WV Cabelas buying 30 round AR PMags (since you can't buy them in MD) last week and they were well stocked and doing a brisk business. I didn't even ask for a military discount but she asked me when she notice I had on a USS Augusta sweatshirt. Always been a fan of their CS. Call them on the phone and a real human being answers the phone by the third ring, no "please listen closely because our menu has changed".

It's $999 and then you get $200 in cabelas bucks to spend on your next purchase. Good if you are spending a bunch on other stuff there

Our store opened this past spring and it is very nice, well stocked, and the people that work there are pleasant to deal with. I haven't spent a lot of money there because frankly they started out not stocking salt water tackle which is mostly what I would be interested in buying.

I prefer to deal with the local tackle shops on the OBX as much as I can but there are times when I need something in a pinch and the shops there are long closed before I ever get to the beach. Still, the way I see it is Cabelas does provide a lot of jobs in the community and the community benefits from the taxes on their revenue. Also by being the anchor store in the shopping center many other businesses have opened since.

This past Saturday I visited the store during the afternoon and it was packed!

My buddy from Palm Beach just tried to buy a shot gun at a Cabellas near St Louis. He was visiting his folks there.

They would not sell it to him because he was from Palm Beach county. They had three counties in Florida they would not sell to, Palm Beach, Dade, and Broward.

Nope... was just there and snapped that picture and talked to a sale rep. Go to the store... its in store only I believe. You do have to buy it first then can just go back in and spend your bucks on Ammo. 999 is the typical MSRP. It almost always is no more than $850 normally most Yamaha dealers.

I finally heard back from Cabela's corporate customer service team...they have forwarded my concerns to the local store management and I was told someone would be contacting me soon.
We shall see...

Want to get some satisfaction Wolakrab? Write a regular letter to the office of the president/ceo as a formal corporate complaint. That will usually get people jumping on the local level. We had to deal with these at UPS for years and you have to drop everything and respond.
I cant stand going to our local store. The corpses that work the front doors are about as unfriendly as Ive seen in any industry. Would it hurt to say hello and welcome to Cabelas? And dont get me started on the employees that scurry away when you actually have a question. A solid indication of the management team is the response of the floor employees....not so good around here.

From what I've heard they aren't totally going down, just spinning off the less profitable parts of the business. But they won't say what that is just yet.

X2.. I heard the kids are selling what they can. Many unprofitable locations will close.

Cabelas sucks. I bought a pair of waders in february of 2015. They leak so I'm trying to return them. They had a 1 year warranty when I bought them, but in april of 2015 they switched it to a 90 day policy. I can't seem to get it through anybody's head that I'm grandfathered into the policy as of when I purchased them.

Guess I'll just buy new ones and shove these back in the box to return....

I don't know about you guys, but I would not use telephone experience as a judge of the health of a company.

It doesn't happen very often that I need to contact any company by telephone, but when I need to I find that they all suck.

First, you cannot even get to someone, then when you do, they suck.

There just is very little customer service today.

If you can do it online, whatever it is, you are in good shape
