Default BAR better worse or same

My BAR .270 has been my go-to deer rifle for 30 years. Problem is my kid now loves it too. Thinking of helping him get a new one and let him work it off cutting the grass. Question is, have BARs gotten better, or worse, or stayed the same in terms of quality?

Thanks

Stayed exactly the same. Still the best semi auto hunting rifle made imho.

I've got a 7mm Mag Safari with BOSS. Safe queen that hasn't been in the woods in years. Bought new around '99 with probably less than 150 rounds through it. Been thinking about selling it......if your interested.

That gun topped with a leupold vx-3 4-12 would be my dream elk gun if I ever go back elk hunting. 7 mm mag is probably a little bit much for a 12 yr old though. Kind of stuck on .270. Thanks for asking though.

I've got my Dad's old BAR in .338

I need to get that down to the range. We can't hunt deer with rifles here in Ohio but that thing would be wayyyyyy overkill for deer. I'd probably loose half the deer using that.

I'm in the same boat. Been using a BAR .270 for 30 yrs. Now my sixteen yr old wants the same. Thinking about giving him mine & buying a new one for myself. I had to trade out the ported boss for non-ported on mine. Couldn't stand the noise.

I don't find that my Ruger M77 7mm remington magnum has anymore recoil than my 270 Savage.

Actually, with the BOSS, it kicks less than my 30-30 (I'd say comparable to my sons .243, but waaay louder) I had a VX3 3.5 to 10 on it up till last year. I put a Nikon Monarch 16x on it, and I think I've shot it about 10 times since.

Oh yes! If we are talking about noise generated, between the boom of the gun and the crack of the bullet that 7mm is a skull buster. I can only imagine how much louder it can be equipped with a BOSS. I have a Nikon Monarch 4-12x50 on mine. 300 yards is a chip shot.

I have two. My daughter was using my .270 Safari and liked it. It has the BOSS to help with the recoil. Its basically hers now as she won't give it up. I bought back in 1990.

I bought a new 30-06 Safari with the boss last year for my self. I was looking at a used Kimber but found a new BAR in Oregon and jumped on it.

Love those guns.....

Skull buster is an excellec analogy. The first time I shot a deer with it I didn't have hearing protection on, and when I pulled the trigger, it felt like someone hit me between the eyes with a hammer. My ears were crazy ringing, and it sounded like I had my head in a bucket for a week.

Dropped by a local gun shop yesterday. They had several BARs. They had traditional wood/blued like my old one and camo/composite. They had different barrel lengths. Must be different models. Price ranged from $1125 to $1250 without scope. They had a 25-06 that looked pretty sweet.
