Default Dealing with, sigh, Comcast.

Back in June, Comcast switched to Xfinity. I needed a new modem. Here is where I stepped into it. I decided to go triple play and get movie channels (which, it turns out, we don't really watch). Fine. My bill went from $165 up to $190. I got a new and super fast modem, 105 internet, all the movies, and a box we now had to have for the bedroom tv to work. Everything is peachy.
Fast forward to last night. I was going through my bank statements (and I admit that I procrastinate and ignore auto paid bills) when I found my latest payment. $246. What?? I do back a month, $246. Sept, Oct, and Nov. August? $360. I about choked.
Now it gets fun. I call and talk with them. They say they screwed up and will pay back the extra from Sept on. I say what about the giant Aug. Now it gets surreal. About fifty times she acknowledges I PAID June and July for old service. Then she says I upgraded Jun 21 so I was charged for 39 days of the new improved plan (at about $5 a day). I say it makes no sense that I paid for service and now must pay full price for new service on top of that. I keep insisting I PAID once for service and the added charges should be the additional few dollars between the prices. I keep asking for a supervisor. This goes on a mind-numbing loop for an hour. I say I paid for old service she says the charges are for new service... I refuse to give up.
Finally, she transfers me to resolution services (or somesuch dept, I was pretty numb by this point.) The guy answers and asks me a couple of questions. I give him the short answers: overcharges, double billing for 39 days. He says what do you want. I say the numbers. He says okay, your bill will be lowered $20 a month until paid off. Just like that. Literally one minute.
My wife says that will take almost two years. True. We already have a contract for 2 years anyway. I know they are getting an interest free loan for the whole amount. At the staggering rate of interest I get from my savings, it means about nothing.
I can't understand why they are the most hated customer service in America.
At least if you deal with moronic and seemingly endless restatements of illogic for an hour you will eventually be made whole. Warning, it is a LONG hour. Very, very long. My wife said I never raised my voice or cursed. I must be a f#$cking saint.

Maybe after my two year contract there will be somewhere else to get cable and internet. The system of local monopolies allows this crap.

Agreed, just moved to PCola have have Brighthouse internet and dishTV. Went from SLOW shit garbage with Comcrap at 9 megs down (best I could get) to a minimum 80 down and 8 up here and it is a guaranteed rate for a year and no calling to bitch every 3 months and threaten to leave and oh, don't bother asking a ComCRAP rep for their phone extension IF you need to call back, NOT happening and all you will get is a first name and the "I notated that in your file sir" comment. I bought my own modem with ComCRAP and when we brought thier shit back, we got receipts signed in triplicate.

Worst company in America, hands down. And in many area (like mine) they have zero competiton. If you want high speed internet, they have you by the nuts and they know it. First thing I am doing once I retire and have the time is getting into whatever local office and just see what I can do.

I don't work there and don't have a bone but compared to ATT and VZ they are much better.

That is neat.
125 download
24 upload
10 ping
A+ rating, better than 95% of population and that is wifi.
The Xfinity internet is blazingly fast, you just never want to have a problem and have to deal with them. I'm only amazed that I actually got what I wanted after only an hour of horse manure.

I was with Comcast for quite some time. In 2009 I had 3 price increases within 12 months. Then they started charging you $5 if you came into their office to pay your bill. That was the last straw.

I switched to ATT U-Verse and have not looked back. Yes the internet is not as fast but their TV picture quality is much better and I would have better TV than fast internet. ATT's is fast enough for me.

Where my son lives he has Charter. Other than Dish or Direct TV Charter is the only game in town. I went to visit him last week and the Charter HD picture is horrible. He bought a 4K UHD TV and the picture quality sucks completely. He is waiting for ATT to get to his neighborhood but they are still 3 miles away. I will say though that Charters internet is quick.

Comcast is the highest maintenence service I pay for, I have to call them constantly with issues. And yes, when the bill climbs, as it always does, I have to call and fight to get it lowered.
I feel your pain, OP

Drop it! You won't miss watching a tv show with 50% commercials. Get Netflix, anything I want to watch is already on-line, or go to a bar for games. I seriously would not take it if it was free. Movies are un-watchable with two hours of commercials. Plus most of the shows are garbage. Watching TV is not supposed to be this hard.

Only company I know that charges $5 a month for a paper statement. Xfinity wireless modems are not the best either, much better signal with a different router.

On a side note there bve service is great, and the customer service difference between business and residential is night and day. The folks at bve actually have a brain although the installs all still get messed up due to no internal communication.

Comcast is the only choice for internet at my house. I have spent hours arguing with them about over charging me and service issues. They are the worst company I have ever had to deal with in my life. And I mean that sincerely. Incompetent, lie, and generally could care less about their customers. Its crap they have been allowed to grow into such a huge company that most competitors dont stand a chance...

I had a hit on my credit by them. Couldn't figure out what it was. They were charging me for a box I returned 5 years before in a different state. Took weeks to get it all situated.

Not to mention what company won't let you speak to a supervisor? Their method is you leave a supervisor a voicemail and they will call you back (which they don't) within 2 weeks.

I have gotten to when I call Comcast I tell the first human that I finally get to talk to that I am going to try real hard to be civil but from past experience I will really have a hard time. I explain that I would rather bang my head against the wall than try to deal with them. They become very helpful and usually take money off the bill for a month or two. But by far the worst customer service experience out there. But they do have a virtual strangle hold on the area market

They sent me a new modem in the mail, I put the other one in on the return box and sent it in per instructions. They never even told me a new modem was coming

My bill changes to reflect the cost of both modems and now for tv which I never ordered bc I have dish.

I called they claim I never sent the modem in but I gave them the ups number that says it arrived at their office. Then they acknowledge getting it but it never was checked in so its my fault.

Several escalations later they agree they have it and will get it off my bill as well as the tv. Next month it's all still on my bill. Same process, same result, they say it will be credited but again stays on my bill plus tv.

Four months of this and I visit their office return everything, cancel service, they agree they owe me several hundred dollars and will mail check. I got one check for sixty bucks. They said the rest would have to come in credit in my bill which. I no longer have

I hate Comcast with a passion. A couple of months ago I had to get Comcast because it was the only one that didn't come with a year contract. Got 25 download for $29 a month. I had a service call scheduled to install cable, but found the cable already installed that was half buried (renting a place for my job so I didn't know it was there). I called up to cancel the appointment to install the cable and they called back 5 times in a couple days to keep confirming the appointment even though I canceled it each time with the representative.

The last representative I talked to not only canceled my appointment but my service and account too for some reason. I called back and the $29 deal was no longer available but they could give me the same download speed for $49 now. I quote one of the managers after 7 hours of trying to get my account reactivated, "yes Sir I know we are at fault for canceling your service, but we can't give you the $29 rate because it isn't available any more." A couple of hours later after they kept transferring me to different departments with each one telling me I needed to talk to the department that I was just transferred from.

I finally just told them to cancel my service, I'd do without internet if I had to deal with that crappy customer service. Immediately they transferred me to the customer retention manager where they gave me the $29 rate and took care of all my issues in about 20 minutes. Seriously I wasted almost 9 hours of my life on hold and talking to idiots that just were trying to wear me down and take the higher fee.

After this time I will never again use Comcast again even if they are the only provider around.

Happiest day of my life was the day I walked into the Comcast store, handed them their boxes and modem, got a receipt, and said "have a nice day." That was six years ago. I've had Uverse ever since and it's a much better product.

To the poster who moved to Pensacola and now has Bright House, I hope your experience is better than my relatives who live in Orlando. Down there, they are as bad as Comcast.

I was ready to a couple hundred dollars to have an attorney get me out of my contract with comcast but once they got my registered letter explaining exactly how they had breached their terms, I was out. I cut the cable and told them the box was on the front porch. I put it in the box the DSL modem came in...

Just keep track of what they give you credit for and what you expected to get from them. It will probably end up where you cannot dispute that far back once you realize they did not do what they said they would,
Did they give you an amount they would credit you and did you get that in writing?
