Default Alabama Update

I arrived last Sunday and have been enjoying my stay so far. I've spent several days walking and biking around Fairhope. Beautiful city with quite a few attractive women who apparently have lots of money judging by the shops I see them coming out of!

An attractive lady friend that I'd been talking to over the internet picked me up Wednesday for dinner. We went to Big Daddy's but they are closed on Wednesdays , so we ended up at the Fish River grill in Foley (www.fishrivergrill.com). Food was pretty good. Loved their complimentary “swamp soup”. They had live entertainment which was a plus.

I visited the gulf shore area on Thursday and checked out the state park their. Wow, like over 400 campsites! While it was nice, I thought it was a tad pricey for my tight ass. Seniors get a 15% discount but thats only Sunday thru Thursday. Their is and 11% tax as well as some other “daily fee” in the $7 range. All told it would be $45/night first night then $41 but would go up another 15% for the weekend. I”ll stick to my private spot. I did enjoy riding my bike on several of their paved trails which was nice.

Today, I started out with breakfast to go from “Biscuit King” near Fairhope (google it). Very interesting hole in the wall type place. Their signature is breakfast baked up INSIDE a biscuit. I'll have to say it was pretty darn good. Afterwards, I went to see the USS Alabama as well as the submarine, USS Drum and all the aircraft. It was all quite impressive. I can't even imagine life as a submariner. I stopped at Felix's for a late lunch. Had blackened mahi mahi which was delicious.

Hope to go to Elberta tommorow for breakfast at “Grits-N-Gravy” (google it) then hit the farmers market in Foley. My lady friend and I are going to beach at Fort Morgan on Sunday, then I'm frying up some Lake Erie Yellow Perch for her that I brought down with me.

Bellingrath Gardens are next on my bucket list, probably Monday or Tuesday.

Sounds like things are going well. I too just recently found the Biscuit King. Funky lil joint, but that all inclusive biscuit wasn't bad at all.
I hear good things about Grits n gravy. Post up tomorrow.

I thought the same thing about the sub last time we were there. Read a book about a WW2 American sub crew called Silent Running I think. Very interesting. Never hear much talk about how the American subs decimated Japanese shipping.

For a really good meal try TinTop on CR 10 Bon Secour.
For camping Big Lagoon can't be beat.
Had FRG takeout just a little while ago myself.
Sunday brunch at the Grand Hotel is awesome but pricey.

Here's a few... I did drive by the Tin Top and its on my list. To be honest, in not big on going to restaurants by myself, preferring to prepare my own meals (love to cook) . I am trying to experience some of the local culinary offerings albeit hopefully with a lady friend.

If I walk to my mailbox I can see Grits and Gravy. Good little breakfast stop.

On the way to or back from Elberta you could swing down to Barber Marine and check out the dinosaurs and other giant creatures on the grounds.
