Default First American woman cruise ship captain...

....and at only 37 years old! What an awesome story. Proof you can be anything you want, you just have to put your mind to it at a young age and work hard toward that goal.

Her Dad is a champ. I'd like to think I'd have the same words of encouragement to my daughters.

what % of captaining that ship, in this modern day, is computer knowledge / know how?

vs some old salt who just knows the way of the sea?

It seems these large, modern ships would be driven by computer and the captain, in reality, wouldn't be doing much captaining? like modern day aircraft I suppose?

I took a behind the scenes tour of the NCL Gem and Breakaway, both times we were brought to the bridge for about 15 minutes. Believe it or not, paper charts are still being used along with pencils, brass dividers and deluxe parallel rules

Spending your life doing actual hard work will take a toll on anyone's looks.

Regardless, she's still hot. And I bet if she puts on some sexy clothes, gets her hair and makeup done she would look younger.

I wonder how many American cruise ship captains there are in total? It always seems like its a foreign guy as the captain - usually due to labor laws and the ships registry.

Her ship is registered in Malta, Valletta...

I made it to the bridge of another Celebrity ship a few years ago and was surprised to see one of the deck officers was an American...female too.
