Jersus....

Could you either post up your favorite "Black Friday" websites or pm me with those please. I really need to save as much on this build as possible.

Thank you!

Most people, including me, have had good experiences with Georgia Arms stuff

Right now they have .223 in 500 round ammo cans of their "canned heat" for $205... in FMJ and Soft point 55 grain and 62 grain SS109 loads and then free shipping on orders $500 or more. That would be .41 a round.

I don't think there is any one site. My experience is you have to search at a and other sites to find stuff.

I just made first purchase of ammo from freedommunitions.com last night...being stuck indoors all weekend causes sporadic internet purchases...

500 rounds of .40 (FMJ and good HP), 500 .223 FMJ and 100 .223 v-max for $360ish. Free shipping on first order for those interested.

Certainly understood, just hard to know if I am getting a good deal or not when I'm completely ignorant of prices. Thought if I stick with 4-5 sites that you folks know will be giving good discounts and have utilized them before I can hedge my bet in my direction.

Thanks for the site.......what's the countdown number?

There is not one specific site, but i will help point you in the right direction.

As Cracker mentioned - gun-deals.com is a great source.

I pointed out earlier in this thread - arpartsfinder.com is one of, if not the best for finding deals.

Palmetto state armory typically has a huge black Friday sale. As does stag arms, Bravo Company.

Check ar15.com - specifically the industry section to look for who is going to have sales and when.

Lastly, a few times a year, core15 runs a "meltdown" sale and I have have picked up some absolutely screaming deals during that event. For example, complete uppers for under $200.

I realize it is a lot to sort through, but once you actually buy a lower and a lower parts kit, you will ask yourself what took so long, lol.

And, as odd as it sounds - do not rule out amazon as a source either.

Got out to shoot my AR-556. Got the open sights set. 50 yds, windage perfect. It's a couple inches high. If I adjust the front sight 1 click it's too low. I left it slightly high at 50.

I'm glad I only bought 80 rounds of that cheap russian TulAmmo .223 junk. Shot 10 rounds and it didn't load the next round a single time. This was with the extra PMAG I bought so I stopped and loaded the Ruger mag that came with it with the rest of the TulAmmo. Same result.

I shot some Winchester 55 gr. 5.56 using both magazines and not a single failure.

I was going to keep it open sights but my eyes have changed since I was shooting a lot 10-15 yrs ago. I'm thinking something in the 4x range since this will be my close combat zombie apocalypse gun.

Any suggestions?

The .223/5.56 does a number on a empty steel refrigerant cylinder. 22lr goes in but doesn't come out. The .22 does however go to about .45 when it hits that back wall. People can say what they want, if you get shot by 22lr and it hits a bone and starts bouncing around, you are going to be in serious trouble.

I figure this would be a good thread to ask my question, rather than start a new AR-15 discussion.

This thread lit the fire under my ass to start a build from scratch, something I've been wanting to do. The specialized tools and parts are starting to arrive for the lower, but now I am looking towards the upper. I am not wanting to go cheap with this build, since I believe you do get what you pay for. For the barrel I am looking at the Battle Arms match fluted SS barrel and the upper receiver is a Spike's Tactical ST-22 flat top. I am wanting the free float/picatinny flattop rail. Now, I am wanting to have the gas piston system on it, but it seems I am only finding "conversion" kits.

Here are my questions. I am wanting to also get the Battle Arms gas block, but will that work with the piston system? With the piston system it looks like I need a compatible BCG, is this true? Where I am getting confused is making the correct purchase the first time. I don't want to buy something only to find out that doesn't work the other part, since I am wanting to do a bottom up build.

If you want to PM me to chat more about this that'll be fine or just post it here. I don't want o hijack the OPs thread.

Thanks!

Here's one my buddy put together for me...can't tell you much about it, but it is SS Fluted Wylde match barrel (I think) which was a PSA Upper and Lower is PSA as well. I think he swapped out the stock for a better one...with a Bushnell 1-4x AR scope and 3 pmags right at $1000 even.

Edit: Just talked to buddy...stock is Mag Pul STR. Still waiting on him to get the gun to me (he's my FFL) so no experience with it yet.

My Ruger AR-556 was made 122 miles from my house. Paid $620 + tax from Carolina Gun Runners.

Maybe your gun just needs shot more before you run steel cased stuff... I have never had a problem with TULA ammo. My DPMS will eat through about anything. Be sure and clean the chamber really well too..

NW, JMHO, very little is gained with the piston system on a 14.5"-16" AR, they do run cleaner but at the expense of added weight and loss of accuracy. Stick with the proven DI gas system for parts availability if nothing else. Lot's of quality parts available, I've had great luck with Noveske and CMMG barrels, just make sure your gas block will work with your hand guard. What barrel length and gas system (length) are you going with, also twist rate? Enjoy the build, this is a great time to buy cheap and stack deep.

Didn't want to do the yard today so I went to psa and picked up a magpul moe OD lower build kit and sat down with one of my stripped psa lowers. Something I'd done earlier this week in FDE. Note the lack of custom, expensive AR assembly tools... Don't let all the suggested tools scare you away. I made my own pivot pin install tool (out of an old #2 phillips screwdriver) and Amazon prime got the castle nut wrench to my door for about $8- I can get it just as tight with a brass punchName: image.jpg1_zpsx75l3l4r.jpg
