Default Old SOB and a turtle

Driving thru N.Myrtle Beach today, coming up adjacent to the new Dicks/Public's kinda Mall recently built, as i was approaching the light a good sized turtle was scooting across the road, i watched in my rear view as a newer Caddy swerved just to hit the turtle, saw it flip up and land upside down, squished...as driver came up behind me saw driver and passenger laughing, for some reason this TOTALLY pissed me off..i got out of my truck, walked up yelling about how fing tough they must be to run over the turtle, they both looked at me like i was rabid..i mean wtf, why do that? am i crazy? its not like im a tree hugger, i hunt deer/duck/hog i fish ect...it just really pissed me off.If i didnt have two small kids who rely on me,i mighta gone to the pokey for assault.....thanks i needed to get that off my chest.bugging me all day.

Think about your kids a little more the next time you get out of your car to yell at another driver, do it to the wrong guy and you could end up run down or shot.
Agree with the outrage over the action but not worth it in todays world.

Interesting concept to ponder. Gut reaction now would be to nail their car with my truck, get a ticket, and get sued, and get to explain to the court why I was defending defenseless creatures against wonton aggression by sadists.

...then I'd pay the fine, I guess...but I'd feel good for having hauled them into court and admit to being what they were.

Amen. See the post here about the firefighter run down and murdered after an argument with some demon.

I knew this guy back in the 1990s on South Beach. Colombian. He picked up an accordion one day and in just days could play ANY song! A little bit slow, but he was still solid. Woke up every morning to go to work. Held two jobs for years. Had a GF and an infant daughter. I drank with him and a bunch of other guys dozens of times. Great guy!

We were all drunk under the stars one night on South Beach when he admitted that, when he saw a cat in the road, he would deliberately aim for it and try to run it over. As Miami Beach is infested with stray cats, I am sure that he had the opportunity to kill dozens, if not hundreds, of cats over the years.

In the moment of that admission, I began to... not like the guy.

Fast forward several years. It's lunch time and I happen to walk into this pizza place that was owned by a Russian guy. He and I both knew our Colombian friend.

"Did you hear what happened last night?" my Russian friend asked.

"No, what?"

"Our Colombian friend went down to Coral Gables to visit his GF and daughter. On his way back, he got t-boned by another car and was killed instantly."

I thought of all the stray cats. Since then, I have believed in Karma.

I live in a fairly rural area with lots of ponds. When I first moved there 23 years ago it seemed like I stopped almost daily to do a turtle rescue (lots of BIG snappers). now I rescue 1 every few weeks. Frogs /snakes same thing.

I keep alert for little critters on the road but most don't.
I do seem to have a deer altercation almost every year.

I sense your frustration and wouldnt expect anything less from MYB but like mentioned, do be careful these days talking junk to strangers in a car. They shoot cops daily and they have guns.

It would have been poetic justice if part of the shell penetrated one of their tires.

Sad. I totally agree with your outrage but as another pointed out that response could be dangerous.

I don't know if something like that is reportable to FWC or some other entity? Have a friend who's neighbor got upset that a night heron nested in the tree above where he parks his truck although it's been a nesting spot for years. He decides when he sees one of the adolescents on the ground to spray paint it. Neighbor found out calls FWC (I think) and they were ready to move on it but unfortunately couldn't find the bird which would have been the evidence.

My wife will stop and help turtles across the road. Now I stop too..

Few years ago she was in her truck with the kids, had her mom in the car as well, and saw a box turtle crossing the road. She stopped to help it across...but before she could make it, a car swerved and took the little turtle out. It really hurt her feelings. I'd like to find that jackass.

I and my brother stop daily for turtles and snakes in the road. Honestly, my brother texted me yesterday and said he just caught a 3 foot king snake in the road.

People who kill, indiscriminately and for fun, have sever mental problems. (BTW, I love hunting and fishing.)

"its not like im a tree hugger, i hunt deer/duck/hog i fish ect..."

Being a hunter and killing for fun are two different things. I'd have no problem shooting a human being under the right circumstances. Hunting for food can be rewarding and fun. However, I seem to be rescuing animals all the time, The turtle in the road is an innocent and the people that killed it are sick. As others have said, be careful confronting a sick SOB.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I squished a turtle the other day. I thought it was just a small rock in the narrow road but my wife told me,along with the crunching sound, that it was a turtle. Unavoidable but I still felt a little bad about it.

Good for you. So many people these days are too much of a pussy to stand up for their principles.
