No wonder they were the best generation. Look how industrious they were. Look at the hard work required just to get a jeep on land!

Now I see where the "we can do it" attitude came from that built this country into a superpower after WW2.

Guadalcana was one of many islands my father served on between 1942 and 44'. He never spoke much about his tour of duty, family that knew hime prior to the war said he came back a very different person.

I made the mistake of bringing home a girl that was from the Phillipines, he never said a word but my mother the next day told me to never bring her around the house again.

Great pictures. Thanks for posting. The pictures of the island fighting are incredible. Those guys that island hopped and served on the carriers and ships are the best. If not for them my Dad who was on a B 29 would not have had a place to land after the plane was damaged on a bomb run over Japan.

How can an American look at this and come away with lunatic thoughts about the "unfairness" of Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

I wish I hadn't lost my father's books, pictures and stories ( Katrina borrowed them ) when he was in WWII. I am sure everyone would have found them interesting to say the least.

Going to Normandy, seeing the 360 degree movie, and imagining (or trying to) what was going through their minds... better people than we have now for sure. I was humbled. Tears and couldn't eat. The best generation for sure.
