This seems weird, is turning off these systems a big deal or not? I have no idea if this site is one of the crazies I stumbled on it from another site.

Na, that is a real thing. I'm flying on Friday. Hope I at least get ADS-B weather.

Its not such a big deal as it will not effect ATC's operations or ability to warn you of traffic. However having your own traffic display in the cockpit is a nice feature.

A few weeks ago my wife and I were heading to Boston via LaGuardia, and the Washington airspace control went down 5 minutes after starting to taxi. We were delayed 2 freakin' hours until we went back to the gate, got more fuel, and got rerouted to a 45 minute longer flight than the original.

How does an outside entity go about shutting down a plane's TCAS?

Not sure it would shut down a true TCAS system but it does sound like the ADS-B traffic systems will go bye-bye

Right, but the article clearly states "TCAS." I know nothing of the publisher, but is seems like they are making it more dramatic than it is, maybe for some sort of agenda.

Do I enjoy having TCAS? Yes. Has it saved my bacon? I don't think so. I have had several RA's but none of which were on a collision course.
