Default Do you believe in signs from a higher power?

A month or so ago my wife and I were heading out of town where we were having IVF performed due to a lost pregnancy she had last year. As we are waiting on our flight she says wow that flight attendant looks just like my mom (deceased), the lady sits next to my wife and they begin chatting while I am returning emails.

My wife looks at here name tags and says wow what a coincident you have the same name as my mother. Long story short during the ensuing conversation she finds out that not only does this random lady that eerily resembled her mother had her same first name, but also the same middle and last name as her mother.

Any how we took it as a sign as her mother was there with her. (on a side note the attending nurse, also had the same name as her mother).

I think that is really cool, and yes, I do believe in this stuff!

Yup. Had my first panic attack in years a few sundays ago at 3AM. The following Sunday at 3AM I awaken to my dog vomiting, which would be the beginning of her going into septic shock which would kill her hours later.

Yep - God definitely sends signs (perhaps via angels). You just have to be aware. He also answers prayers - seen it first hand.

My wife tells the kids that if they see a penny on the sidewalk it is a lost loved one sending kisses from heaven. They've picked up lots of coins over the years, exclaiming pennies from heaven. A few months back, the night before a final job interview I was out for a long run, clearing my head and reflecting on my life past and present when I saw something on the sidewalk. I stopped to pick up a beat up penny with the year 1989 - same year my mom died. Probably just a coincidence. Nailed the interview and landed the job of a lifetime.

Yes I do. Just this past Sunday sitting still in a racecar under a black flag I was thinking no matter what happens when the track goes green I need to thank the man above for how lucky I've been to get this far. (I was back in the field due to a terrible start). My toughest competitor has a mechanical problem and I manage to out drive everyone else winning the national championship in my class with NASA!

I still say I didn't deserve it, but thankful it came to me.

I had a good friend for years that I used to fish with.Met him at the PD I worked at years earlier. He was a barber by trade, but enjoyed police work and was a dispatcher.Anyhow,he was a heavy smoker, heavy drinker and ate junk food.At 60 he looked and felt 75.He had numerous heart attacks, each one a bit worse than the one before and each time he would pull a miracle bounce back and defy the odds.During the first one,he was clinically dead on the table and had one of those incidents where he saw what was going on in the room while he was "floating".He told me about the whole thing and said he had "angels" around him that talked to him. They told him "it's not time" and he returned to his body.He pulled a comeback and was better for about a year and had another heart attack.Again he told me about the angels and swore they were real and that they talked to him and explained he was supposed to have a few more heart attacks before it was time. This went on for 3 more years. The same story after another 4 episodes.I believed what he was telling me,I don't really know why,but I know he was telling me the truth.I hadn't talked with him for a few weeks and one night I had a vivid dream.John was standing next to me and he looked 25 years old.Young and full of life, bear in mind,I didn't know John as a young man, just as his older weaker self.In the dream I asked him what was going on,you look so young and fit,I cant believe my eyes.John says to me "I told you,I have angels. That was the end of the dream. The next morning,John's obituary was in the paper. This was the only time I have ever had a dream like this and I truly believe he visited me from the other side just to make me a believer.

Sounds like horse power and good driving to me got you to the finish line. But I don't think it's in line with what the op is asking.
And yes I agree that there are little things in life that happen to make you think that a loved one is at peace and is still with us in some way.

Tried to go sky diving 3 times and we never got off the ground. Weather twice and a problem with the plane. Asked for a refund.

Ex wife was 4 months pregnant for our second child. High risk pregnancy, lots of complications. My Mom was dying from complications of lung cancer and was in a coma. Docs were pushing us to to do amnio to determine whether the baby was ok. I was at the hospital round the clock with my Dad for the last 5 days of my Mom's wife. The day before she passed away she called my name while in the coma. I bent down and told her I loved her. She told me that the baby was going to be OK. At that point I figured that she was getting her info from places the docs couldn't access. That second child just graduated summa cum laude with distinction from college, and is beautiful, personable, and not a little like my Mom.

I am tempted to believe it because I have had a few coincidences in my life (actually more than a few) that have defied logic - but I am a skeptical sort of person who is very untrusting - so no, I guess I would have to say that I don't believe in signs from a higher power. The problem is that these kind of things actually happen to me a lot and I wonder if someone or something isn't trying to tell me something.

Many years ago, I met a guy at a trade show with the same name as me, first and last. At the time, there were only about 800 families in the United States with the same last name as me. I joined Linkedin a couple of years ago and there are 6 of us with the same first and last name that are members. Maybe it's not so rare to have the same name as someone else.

Good luck to you and your wife on the IVF.

I do believe, when I was a teenager on a 450 Honda doing about 50mph on a four lane a car crossed the road in front of me and stopped, just before I hit it broadside someone said standup! and I did, launched like a rocketship, and bounced like a basketball down the highway, no broke bones, I heard that voice clear as day in slow motion.
