Default is 100k for a v6 f type dumb?

Not for me, sadly. For pops. He's building one at the dealer. I'm worried about resale value.

The equivalent ($$) from Germany is a Cayman GTS. I've driven both. The GTS is a slightly better car in the twisties, but the roar and excitement of the f type is magic.

At the end of the day though..100k for a v6 Jaguar. Yeesh. Porsche has a much more stable used market.

Opinions? What would you be leaning someone you care about towards in that price range for a Florida weekend warrior (manual gearbox only)?

For $100k you should be able to get a F-Type R, which has a 550HP V8. Also, if you're concerned about a 6 cylinder, you should have the same reservations about the Porsche as it only has a 6 as well.

If its what Pops wants, and what Pops is writing the check for, I'm not sure where anyone else opinion comes into it.

"Opinions? What would you be leaning someone you care about towards in that price range for a Florida weekend warrior (manual gearbox only)?"

Other than that's a ridiculously difficult sentence to read, what is your concern?

Is dad spending his last dollar and won't be able to afford to feed himself?

Does dad have dementia and is not capable of handling his finances?

Is dad spending your inheritance on something you don't approve of?

Are you afraid that when he's done with this toy it will be hookers and blow next?

Seriously, what is your concern and what is the question?

BTW, that car sounds like a better investment than most boats. However, I wouldn't think of most weekend cars as an investment. If that's what he wants and he can afford it, he should get it regardless of our or your opinion.

Every man runs their own life.

I'm not going to "tell" him no. I'm looking for general opinions. About resale value, subjective opinions of appeal relative to other options, etc. That's all.

Buying a car and not driving it to preserve its resale is like not having sex with your girlfriend so she will be in better condition for the next guy.
If that's the car he wants and will enjoy I say do it.

Well that's rather succinct. Hard to argue with that.

I had the same issue with my kids. Was talking about buying a C7 and my son tells me it's a Summer car for weekends only and I will be on the boat, so the car will never be driven. Told my son, it's my money, my life and if the car sits in my Drive Way, so be it. Got a 2015 C7 loaded in Dec. and so far put 6500 mile on it. Best money I ever Wasted...

Bullshit.
You were comparing cars...not protecting an old man.

If it's the car he wants...I repeat...how is it your business?
Why would you think you get a vote?
Why would you try to steer him to a different car?

There's only one reasonable answer....he asked your opinion.
If he didn't ask your opinion...why would you insert it?

I thought the Ftype R was a supercharged v6? edit: NVM
Either way, when you're talking 100k+ cars, resale market is important IMO, and Jag hasn't gotten there yet. If he's only putting weekend miles on it, I'd do the Cayman. and IMO, the cayman is the best looker Porsche out there.

Jaguar....evokes images of a "Ford", poor reliability, auto tranny, soft rides, and not really meant to go through the twisties. Porsche is a different animal and is everything the "Jaguar" image is not. Persoanlly, I would never buy a Jag, and never entertain the thought of a pre-owned one either. That being said, it IS his money and perhaps the sedateness of the Jag is more appealing than the Porsche. To me, there is no comparison.......it comes down to what he wants and what car will make him happy.

Jag has come along way . The mindset of the used market has not . The f type is a sweet car . Any car at 100k new has a big hit on resale ? For max resale you need the biggest motor (550hp)and the speed package . Fewer people opt for the max . If it turns him on , let it rip !

The Cayman GTS is a great car - but for that money - the 911 will hold value better. Cayman GTS's are going for $80K.

The Jag will be a very poor investment in comps to a P-car.
