Default The best hunting day in the South, who's going?

Well tomorrow is the first Saturday in September, which any Southern sportsman knows means the traditional dove shoot.

Out of all the hunting I've been fortunate enough to do both around the country and out of it, I don't think anything tops opening day of dove season. BBQ, catching up with old friends, maybe even killing a few birds, and cold beer or bourbon drinks once it's all done.

Headed to the farm in the morning and looking forward to great shoot, hopefully the rain holds out and we have some birds, who else is going this weekend?

I'll be out in a blind... Sweating balls off. Hoping for some cloud cover to keep the heat at bay.

We had a great opening weekend last year. Everyone has been too busy to get a field ready this year.

Man, I agree. The hunt itself usually almost sucks due to heat, but the rutual is great.

Went on September 1st; haven't missed a dove opener since 1979. Got 13, because I picked a bad corner. Hotter than the hinges of Hell...
Usually do the Redneck Triathalon (goose hunt dawn to 9, fish a bit, then dove hunt), but this year could only chase the doves. Heck, a few years ago I shot a banded goose, and called it in from my cell phone from the boat. FWS said it was the first call they had received.

I have not been on an opening dove shoot in the south in 20 years I really miss it. I have shot dove in Argentina which is a whole different story. In Florida you have to be well connected for opening day I am not connected at all

Ohio's season came in Sept 1 but I was out of town. I will be doing my part to educate them to fly a little higher and faster tomorrow.
