Default Staples Rant

When did they start screwing people with there Online vs in store pricing? I needed some toner for an office printer checked online Staples was a little higher then Amazon but it is close by so I went over there. When I find it in the store its $20. dollars more then there online price Employee tells me that they will price match there "own" online price if you bring in a copy of an add or if you can prove it with a smart phone. So instead of price matching there own store I have them price match Amazon. At the end of the sale the guy hands the wife a piece of paper and say's this is your rebate, mail it in and you will get your money back...... Still got charged the store price and if I wanted the difference I had to mail in the rebate. Ended up returning it and just buying it from Amazon. The whole experience was just bad .

Walmart is real bad about the store price being a whole lot higher then their web price, and they won't match it or anything. Really pissed me off the first time. Now I know better. If for some reason their website has the best price compared to competitors and the item is available for store pickup, I order on their website because you can be sure their in-store price is higher, sometimes a lot higher. Don't buy any big dollar items from them in-store without comparing to their online price first.

I have one of those big red Staples buttons that I hacked. Now whenever someone presses the button it says “That was expensive”.

I had the same with office depot . Looked online for ink to see if it was close to the normal online stores. Needed it soon but could wait if I had to. It was the same or within about $2 from most. I went to the store to pick it up and it was about $12 higher. I pulled up their own ad on my phone and they matched it.

Walmart did that to me once too for a ladder. I didn't have a good second choice or I would have told them to shove the whole 6ft one.

If I had that happen with a toner box I would have paid for it, opened the whole thing right in front of them and then asked to return it. Cost them more than the rebate amount probably. Or keep it buy the exact same one online and return that one to them.

Customer service or lack of it is a huge reason why brick and mortar businesses fail.

I don't understand corporations that undercut their brick and mortar stores by selling things for less on the internet. I looked at a gas string trimmer at Tractor Supply that was $169. You can buy it on sale and have it shipped for free to the store for $125 and change. Makes no sense.

Same thing at PETsmart. Tank was $212 in the store; bought it on line and had it shipped to the store for free. Total cost $98.
PS: they actually gave me the one in the store which I had marked in the corner.

Nope, I just look up the item on the app and find the best price.
They even match Amazon prime.
