Default Someone shot my neighbors dog with a pellet rifle today!

What an a$$hole!!!!! Wife and I came home from work today and my neighbor's son came over and asked if he could review our home security cameras. When he got home from school he let out their 12 year old Maltese to do his business and a few minutes later found him with a fractured leg. Their mother came home and took the dog to the vet where it was discovered he had been shot with a pellet. Tomorrow morning he will have to undergo surgery. Poor little fellow has a really hard time getting around and is going blind. He comes over to our house all the time and my dogs love playing with him.

It really take a sorry low down SOB to do something like this to a little 10lb dog. Seriously, if he was in someones yard and they wanted him out they could have chased him. We are pretty sure it was someone on our end of the street as the dog has arthritis and doesn't venture too far from home.

Psychopaths usually begin by killing and torturing neighborhood pets. Somebody is raising a psycho.

Someone shot my cat with a pellet gun when I was growing up and she had a fractured leg. Had to wear a cast for a month or so. Only a messed up person would do such a thing, hopefully karma sorts it out for those sick people.

Pellet guns don't have much range, has to be someone close. Someone shoots my dog I'm camping out with my shotgun until I find out who.

No one should do that to a pet but not everyone thinks like that, as you know.

Someone could they have been tired of chasing since the dog has free rein.

Find the crotchety scum bag who has prior complaints about the dog, because you know someone was bitching about him, and confront the guy.

If security cam shows something good, keep it to yourself and make the person's life a little less enjoyable.

Clayton is still a relatively small community. I'd advise the neighbors to make sure there is a police report, animal control report, put the word out in the neighborhood, even get the local news involved. I got a feeling something (someone) will flush out. Like Striper said, they can't be too far away. I may be wrong but it's worth a try.

Let the dog out when it's better, follow it to where it "does his business"............that's who shot it.

I'm pretty sure we will figure it out. There are several things that will narrow it down.

For starters, about half of our neighbors are older and don't have any children living at home. Schools are back in session and the only neighbors with high school age children on our street are the ones that own the dog. The other neighbors with children have very young children that would have still been in school and certainly not handling a pellet rifle. The fellow two houses over works from home and is an animal lover so I will rule him out. My next door neighbors are retired and stay at home. Pretty quiet but nice and don't think it would be them because it's not like they have the yard of the month or anything.

This leaves around four retired stay at home couples within the dogs range of roaming. As I said before he has arthritis and is going blind so he does not travel far from home. Figure out which one has the nicest yard and we will probably have a winner.

Good question. At this point they have no idea. It's a male dog so he does mark all the mailboxes and when he comes over he and my male dog have peeing matches to see which one can out mark the other.

So the dog runs around its neighbor's yards marking its territory? And you wonder why it got shot? I don't know where you live and wouldn't do it myself but am not shocked at all.

Does your dog do his business in your neighbors yard? Then it is yhour fault your dog has been hurt and you should be a better owner.

If that is not the case then it is probably a neighborhood kid. He will probably brag to his friends, I doubt the police will do anything except take a report, but you might be able to get information from neighbor hood kids and if you get enough information the police might follow up.

If the dog was on a leash or they had an Invisible fence this wouldn't have happened. I agree it's a crappy thing for someone to do but totally preventable.
