I agree and shake my head when I read about stuff like this. More fodder for the gun control people. What a senseless act.

My first thought was this is an act by a lunatic ex-boyfriend getting revenge on live television and will probably find them dead from a self inflicted gun shot. Sure doesn't look like a random act by any means! I tell you, people are freaking crazy!

That's insane... I know that place well.. Bridgewater plaza at Smith mountain lake. Never, ever would have thought that would be the scene for something like this..

There has to be more to this other than some random shooting.. Wtf, though..

(CNN)An apparently routine live TV interview went horribly wrong in Virginia on Wednesday morning.

Two WDBJ employees were shot to death while reporting on a feature story Wednesday morning, the CNN affiliate in Virginia reported. They were reporter Alison Parker and photographer Adam Ward, the station said.

The crew from WDBJ was involved in the shooting during a live interview at Bridgewater Plaza near Moneta.

The gunman is believed to have fired six or seven times, WDBJ General Manager Jeff Marks said. The station does not believe that the interview subject was injured, Marks said.

Video circulated on social media showed a WDBJ reporter scream as what appeared to be gunshots were fired.

Parker is the morning reporter for the Roanoke station and a native of Virginia, having spent most of her life outside Martinsville. She started with WDBJ as an intern, her biography on the station's website says.

She previously worked with another CNN affiliate, WCTI, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, near Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.

She is a graduate of James Madison University's School of Media Arts and Design in Harrisonburg.

My thought as well. Given where they were, that didn't look random at all.

you could be spot on, it sounds like the two killed were in a relationship. Heart goes out too their families.

Just when you think nothing would surprise you . . . This.

CNN just showed the video. Gunned down literally live on the air. Falling camera got a good shot of the shooter. GM of station said fiancé of one of the dead (didn't catch if it was the reporter or photographer) was a producer working the control room - watched fiancé gunned down on the monitor live . . . .

There is a special place in hell for this guy. I hope someone has an opportunity to send him there very soon.

Prayers to the families, and the station.

Rumor is they identified the guy who is an ex employee of the station. Hopefully the POS dies painfully soon.

This is a sad story folks, please send up a prayer for the reporter and cameraman and also the local chamber of commerce woman who was injured. They are currently chasing the gunman on I-64 after a chase up I-81. Not sure how he managed to get so far. He is believed to be a disgruntled former employee of the TV station.

Our home is less than 40min from the crime scene which is usually a rather quiet little place on Smith Mountain Lake. I had my wife standing on alert with the 12ga and her phone. A co-worker of mine lives less than a mile from the site. This is a bit unsettling. There is a lot of heavily forested area around where he could have fled, not sure what his escape idea was but glad he went the other way from us and hope it ends without any further loss of life.

If I was to guess, I would say he was depressed after loosing job and MD put him on drugs. Likely another case of a person on psychotropic drugs loosing with a gun. We will find out.
