Default Verizon Wireless coverage declining?

I am not sure if I have a problem with my phone, or if VZW is doing something monkeying around with their coverage / technology. I have had VZW forever, since my first cell phone in the 90's. The coverage and quality of services has never given me a reason to change. My primary area has always been North America, I use to travel a ton.

However recently I have had an a ton of dropped calls and just crappy call quality. I have called them multiple times and they have actually swapped my phone out twice. They say they can see that my dropped calls has jumped recently, but of course it is unique to me. Anyone else seeing recent issues?

Their signal has defiantly gone down. I thought it was the upgrade recently, but then my wifes phone started having same problem and she had not done the upgrade. Then my cell backed house alarm system started having signal issues and beeping all the time. Sometimes sitting in my office the signal will go from 4lte to 1x, and I can't receive or make calls?

What kind of phone are you using? I had this problem with my old Samsung and after some research, it was the antenna, in all of that model. I switch to a different phone and I stopped dropping calls.

Apparently, not all phone antennas are the same.

This may not be your case but I just signed up with Verison and my new phone would drop calls and battery used up by early afternoon. They gave me a new phone but same problem. I went again and exchanged for another phone and now no problem. I asked if they were rebuild phones but they denied it.

We are in a fringe area for Verizon service. Motorola phones have always worked best for us. Currently have MOTO X first generation, signal strength now is better than ever.

I have a Galaxy 5 and had almost no problems in the year or so I have used it. I used to have AT&T and had nothing but issues. I travel a lot, too. When I used to go to Kansas, my AT&T stopped working about 50 miles south of the Nebraska border. Unless I was near I-70 it would drop calls and go into roam features for using hot spots. All that stopped with Verizon, and my calls are consistent no matter what areas of the country I am in, for the most part. I mean, there are some dead spots, especially up in Michigan, that no phones work at all.

Interesting. I'm having the exact same problem with ATT- been going on for about two weeks. Called them to see if they had an outage near my office because I've been in the same office for over 3 years and always had 3-4 bars of signal strength. All of the sudden, I have only 1 bar most of the time. ATT says no outages in my area. Told me they would re-register my phone through their system but it didn't help. I was considering switching to Verizon.

I've noticed it as well.. Been about 6 to 9 months when I started having problems.. Disappointing because Verizon was the best on my area..

I've noticed a degradation of Verizon's coverage too. No doubt about it.

Same here John, there are times I wonder if I'm in Alaska and not Cape Cod because the signal strength is so poor. And often a cell tower is within line of sight.

I've had pretty good service with Verizon. Originally had a Motorola Razr Maxx and had two bars of 4G in my house. Wife had an S4 and had to go outside to make a call. Verizon swapped her phone but it didn't help. If anything the new phone was worse than the original and would drop calls outdoors! Last fall I went to an Iphone 6 Plus and went to three bars 4G in the house. Wife swapped phones and went to a regular Iphone 6 and now she has the same signal as I do.

Prior to Verizon we had Sprint cellular. It was fine in the city but when we moved to our new house it was unusable.

Not sure if that is good / bad that others are having issues. Fwiw I have had the same phone for almost two years, and it really has been he last 9 months or so. Embarrassed to say I'm not sure what phone it is...maybe a Motorola max. Always buy whatever has the longest battery life.

So... Million dollar question what service for all of N.America, with heavy emphasis on the Boston area? AT&T? Kinda seems like the other carriers are really hit or miss.

IMO AT&T and Verizon are the best 2 options. I've been with AT&T since it was bellsouth, then Cingular, till now in my experience on interstates or metropolitan areas coverage is normally there, get out into the boonies and its hit or miss. My gf has Verizon and more times than not she has coverage when I don't and we're both on IPhone 6's.

Also, someone else mentioned getting rebuilt phones, I had to replace a phone through AT&T and the "new" one they sent me was terrible, then the 2nd one they sent me was just as bad, finally went to the store and after an hour of escalation with the manager and over the phone supervisor walked out with a brand new phone and didn't have any problems. I'm convinced the replacements were crappy rebuilds.

Just switched to US Celluler this weekend.
They supplied me a smart phone paid off my verizon bill, gave me the same plan and saved me 60 a month.
Nuff said.

Not surprising as they work on making the transition from CDMA to VOLTE. Getting at odds with Sprint and US Cellular on roaming agreements doesn't help either. Best course is to complain loudly and often and on social media and in-store. That might help them juggle some priorities.

With all this , there are cell booster / extenders (NOT CHEAP) But if it solves the problem ,may be worth it

any suggestions ?
