Most Google Earth images are shot from a plane that is paid for by each state. There is an image date at the bottom of the screen. The only images google gets themselves are the street level ones that they take from a car driving around

I consider myself a very educated woman, and I am a quick learner. One thing I have learned is that there are evidently a lot of you guys on this site that are not very welcoming and not very accepting. Instead of bashing everyone because they are stupid, clueless, uneducated, fb soccer moms, why don't you try to teach people. I mean, I have learned a lot by following this thread, but I have also seen some pretty negative people bashing. Saying that every single person coming from fb is dumb and clueless is the same as saying every black person is a thug and every white person is racist. It's just not fair to put people into little stereotypes like that.
As a mom of 4, if some tragedy like this ever happened in my family, I would hope that my community would be more accepting of people who had taken the time out of their day to care, to pray, or to just raise awareness. Instead I see you guys doing the opposite.
I have been following this thread since the beginning, and I have scrolled by many offensive posts without responding. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. What you are doing is pushing people away that are concerned and do care. Is that what you want? Is that what the families of these boys would want?
Promote what you love instead of bashing what you hate.

I am a relatively new member here and honestly contribute no where near as much as a lot of these guys do. With that said I have to disagree - this is a VERY welcoming community. While there is always someone in every community that is rude, from the parts I caught were frustrations with people posting incorrect information. Since this thread surfaced on the Facebook group there has been an influx of new members (which is great) but it seems as though what happened with the group happened here where people were just dumping incorrect an useless information. Point proven.. both complaints are from members with 4 posts and member since July.

The guys here generally speak with a level of knowledge and try to keep everything as factual as possible for others to be able to learn and effect. Its just a different atmosphere on FB and some don't want that atmosphere here. I for one think the influx is awesome but also understand the environment and why some keep it that way.

Not arguing with you, saying you're wrong, anything like that, just shedding a little light on how some may feel. Im not one of those.

However, welcome to THT - if you are into fishing or boating at all this place is a wealth of knowledge and its worth sticking around.

I don't believe this special circumstance is any more special than any other loss of loved individuals. This search has already expended more resources than average (one example being missing surf boarder). Granted we all paid for the gov't drones, but we rely on the military (including CG) to prioritize the use of those valuable resources so as to maximize societal returns. Maybe the loss of two kids, put in context with all the other things going on, was not rated sufficient to divert resources beyond what was expended by the CG. I realize this may come across as cold hearted and that to the families there is no higher priority.

Flame suit on.

I understand what their frustrations may be, but do they have to say it in such a hateful way? I get tired of reading that because I may have found you on fb and don't live near the ocean that I must be a clueless mom that has no idea about anything.
That's all I'm saying.
I came here for good, current, and correct information. And I'm not sure what made me feel so connected to this story. Maybe it's because I'm a mom and have kids who are adventurous. Maybe it's because I love the state of Florida and the way we were treated after the shooting here in my city.
But one person always saying negative things to new members tends to give the wrong impression. Like the old saying that one bad apples spills the whole bunch.
I won't take up any more of the thread discussing it, because it's really not the main goal. Just trying to get others to see that attitudes and negativity create more attitudes and negativity.
Not much ocean near where I live, just rivers and lakes. Not much of a fisher either. Just here for the good information this site provides.
p.s. Not all moms are soccer moms. I prefer wrestling, football, and baseball. 😉
Continuing to follow and keep the Jupiter community in my thoughts and prayers.

I agree with you - its a horrible situation but the cold hard reality of it is exactly what you laid out. I am surprised they kept going so long after the survivability window and I have never heard of the effort that was rolled out for these kids.

Again its a horrible situation and my prayers are with the family but the sea is a ruthless b**ch and I applaud the effort that was put forth. I would do exactly what the family is doing and continue privately until all resources are gone. I would never give up on my kid - how ever the military resources operate of real world probability and priority and I am surprised it got as much attention as it did.

Good post GD.
Most here that joined before late July 2015 have a degree of Mariner or Seaman in em and I think most of us were put-off by all the emotion, misinformation and the look at me posts that spilled in here from FaceBook or the Devil as I call it.
I am one of the members who has been ugly to some of the new members who shared irrelevant or bad information and one or two who are simply useless.
After reading your post I am rethinking the way I have conducted myself here and will attempt to embrace our new members who are trying to contribute and be tolerant of those incapable.
AND once again I think we all owe atcfris some gratitude for his contribution in this thread along with the others who offered accurate and timely information.
All those who donated to the SAR and those who offered other support to the families deserve an attaboy as well.

Agreed amigo!

I think this is an amazing community and everyone pulled together in a time of need. Feelings may have been hurt but hey its life. I was frustrated as well in fact stopped following the FB page simply because I couldn't get any info out of it due to all the crap.

However my THT brothers had it covered and hats off to ATC for awesome first hand coverage.

I can tell you this whole thing gave me a new respect for safety gear offshore.
