Default Faro Blanco, what's the 411?

Has anybody been to Faro Blanco since it reopened? What's the good bad and ugly. I'm considering reserving a slip for next summer there instead of Hawk's Cay. Hawk's Cay has certainly gone to the dogs since it has another set of new owners.

FB is nice. The facility ownership is a prominent keys name. They're known for doing it right. New hotel, new Marriott next door. beats Hawks Cay and Tranquility Bay. Fuel system is all new too.

I was a frat brother of one of the Spootswoods. How about some details. Is the WiFi fast enough to stream video since there's no cable TV service? Are there enough fish cleaning tables so they don't get backed up in the afternoon? Some of the slips look pretty hard to back in to. Any other observations?

Its seam to be the same docking as years ago. Your 31 would probably go on the dock to the northern side of the lighthouse. Looks to be plenty of cleaning stations on that side ,one at each end of the dock. It not what it was but seams to be getting better as time goes on. Has a pool, restaurants ( so so ) bar and is near the turtle hospital, and a cab or bike ride to the grocery ( winn Dixie, public) . Only been there to check it out and have not been impressed with the service or food. But I'm a local so maybe I don't know what the traveling want. I'm at harbor day club just south of them and even though we don't have a pool or bar we still have a great time enjoying marathon and the reason we are in the keys. Look us up if you want , you can always walk over for the day.

I'm not familiar with Harbor Day Club. Is it a marina?

Lightbulb Hawk's cay is is still great !

I just purchased a home in Hawk's cay and can't understand the negative comments about the resort. Everything is first class with the new owners ,pools immaculate, rooms up to date, and a disneyworld for the kids.
Faro is newer, food is better , but other than a boring rectangular pool, just a glorified Holiday inn. I will give them a 5 star rating for the restaurant however.

I just spent a month at Hawk's Cay Marina, which is different from the resort. I've been going there for 20 years. This year was the worst.

Little piece of my hart broke when they took out the old pool. Word is the restaurant hired the slackers from Hawks Cay but the bar is good.

Hawks's Cay has hired a bunch of slackers that take slacker to an all time high.

We had lunch there last week and used the fuel dock several times, everything was clean and nice. I would have no problem using their docks while on vacation. The house we rented last week had more than enough water for the boat we took down (35') but when we go back next month just for a fishing trip we will probably stay there.

I didn't intend to start a Hawk's Cay bashing thread. I apologize. Now tell me some more about Fara Blanco.

Walking distance or bicycle distance to Burdines, castaway, Sunset Grill etc. two new hotels being built just to the north. A Marriott and something else. Hotel food? Have you ever found really quality hotel food? I have not. Anywhere. But that's not where we go to the keys.

Meant to type harbor cay club. We are a 24 owner marina just south or faro blano and have a small private marina which has space during the summer. Check out web site. WWW harbour cay club.org. Faro blanco is a hotel with a marina that charges alot for service. Food is OK service is fair but the cost is crazy for what you get. $15.00 + dollars for a hamburger and more for frys, crazy. Just my .02

Went to FB for the 4th and it was packed/sold out. Powerboat races HQ. Marina is very modern, fully equipped and staffed, CLEAN, easy in and out. Didn't fish, but saw nice cleaning tables. The hotel is very new, so everything was perfect. Had cable tv too. As to internet speed, idk, just used wireless. Free breakfast in am, is what it is. Restaurant fare was good, service a bit slow, but they were overwhelmed that weekend. Went back a week later, totally dead. Marina only had a handful of boats, but attendants were all on the ball. Restaurant was dead too, but still slow service. Overall, a nice property and the family has done a great job in turning it around. More marina slips coming on the south side in the near future. If you have a runaround boat, you can boat to many other restaurants in Marathon, or cab it.
