Default Florida again...

Wife and I keep thinking about "the move" south, somewhere between Jensen beach and Jupiter or south of Jupiter. Any suggestions for the best kid friendly neighborhood in the 350-400k range? Now that our family has started to shrink there is less reason to hibernate like a bear in the winter. Thanks for any positive input.

Personally wouldn't go south of Jupiter, too crowded, would consider north of Jensen though. If I didn't set roots years ago where I am, I would own a place on Indian River Drive between Jensen and Ft Pierce... I'd suggest our Stuart neighborhood, but I don't know if we're kid friendly or not, we're dog friendly.

We just moved here from Wichita, Ks. We are currently renting to make sure we like Jensen Beach. So far so good. When we chose Jensen Beach it was due to the location to work and the beach, plus it being in Martin Co. We have 4 boys and schools were the top priority. Palm City is also another place to consider but with kids i would stay out of St Lucie county just based on school scores. Course this is an opinion. Good luck with the decision /move

I would like to stay as far away from ft P as possible. The tough part is finding schools and neighborhoods that are conducient to kids.

We just finished the move to Jupiter in Abacoa. The budget you have will be a stretch unless there is another financial catastrophe but I can't imagine a better place for the kids to grow up. I'm sure there are nearby neighborhoods that could work.

Cut the cord!

How much will access to boating water play into your choice? Will you need waterfront property, or will you trailer or store your boat at a marina?

Don't have the pockets for waterfront, would like to be within a half an hour from the marinas though.

Are you dead set on the S.E. coast of Florida? If not, there are plenty of nice waterfront homes in your price range, with some of the best schools in the state in N.W. Florida. Bays and Gulf of Mexico access as well as river systems too.

Unfortunately it does get cold here some time. A few days a year we touch the freezing point.

I certainly don't want to sidetrack the thread as you say you want SE Florida, but we found some great places along the west coast of Fl. and a place called Lakewood ranch has great reviews on being family friendly. It's south of Tampa and north of Sarasota if you care to take a look.

If not let the recommendations for the east coast keep coming.

You beat me to it, enjoy the east coast.

Al, I have lived in Martin County since I was 10, and we love it. It has the best schools and our taxes are significantly lower then Palm Beach County. Martin County has a very anti growth county commission, so we don't become Palm Beach or god forbid Dade or Broward county. I work as a leo in Palm Beach County and the only two place I would live there is Jupiter Farms or Palm beach Country Estates, but your taxes will be nearly double, as well as higher car insurance. Another factor is where are you going to work? Living in Jensen and working in Palm Beach County is a pain in the but commute, but Jensen is very close to some awesome in shore fishing. If you want to call me and discuss further pm and I'll give you my number. Be safe Rick

Jensen is a great place, the water is close and offshore fishing is great and close. For your price range you can find a nice house in Jensen.

I work in a healthcare facility and would like to attempt to keep it that way, but I also own an electrical company so my options are good. I just wonder if the schools are sufficient and I can stand the heat in the summer?

Jensen Beach has the highest rated schools in FL. The heat isn't that bad. Living close to the ocean you get a nice breeze.

The Cove area in Deerfield Beach is nice. Very close to the beach and inlet and is east of US 1. Suburban type neighborhood in between Boca and Fort Lauderdale. You can get a 3/2 in the mid to high 300's. I know zilch about the schools. Only issue is OldPete lives there <g>.

No lack of healthcare facilities down there, but do your research. Some are constantly in trouble with legitimate medmal suits and class actions.

Love Deerfield Beach. Grew up surfing at the pier and in front of the Embassy Suites. Is that little sub shot Sonny's still there next to IWS?
