Tybee Island/Savannah VS Sullivan Island/Charleston
The wife and I are considering a trip. Our idea is to spend a couple of days on the beach and then a couple of days in the city. Which of these two choices would you prefer? We will probably VRBO a place on the beach and then a nice studio apt. or B&B in the city. While at the beach relaxing is all that will be done. While in the city some sightseeing and historic sights for sure. No fishing on this trip. Recommendations greatly appreciated.

Do you like to eat or drink more? If you like to eat go to charleston if you like to Drink go to savannah.

Both have great history and sight seeing.

Love both places. Prefer Charleston slightly though. Don't discount Isle of Palms for a place to stay.

IOP is a great place to stay as well as SI, close to the city of Charleston but nice private beaches as well

If you are interested we have a home at IOP we rent, just pm me

Been to both. Spent lots of time in both. Love each equally...difficult to choose.

Savannah..lived there/been going there since 1968. Love it, HATE it. Crime is terrible. Worst police department in the world. Moved from downtown for these reasons.

Different since "the book" came out, but not any safer. Definitely worth going to, just be VERY careful.

BTW, cars IN the squares have the right-of-way.

Long time ago we stayed at a place called Dafuski (forget how to spell it) near savannah and it was remote and awesome. Could take a boat back to the main land and do stuff for the day but the brunch and island experience was nice.

Tybee Island/Savannah VS Sullivan Island/Charleston?
I like to stay with the Admiral at a B & B in Charleston. Go to the beaches (IOP/Sullivan's or my personal preference - Folly Beach)

Stayed for the first time - about 2 weeks ago - with the Admiral at the Palmer Home B & B; #5 East Battery. View was spectacular, has it's own pool, and within walking distance of every major restaurant in Old Charleston.

On the trip, we did a side drive to Pawley's Island. For a week beach rental it looks GREAT.

Can't go wrong with either, we do both regularly.

If you're wanting to just relax on the beach, maybe look into Dafuskie island, I know the Westin in savannah runs a shuttle boat there for day trips, once on the island you have access to a beach club, can rent a golf cart, eat, etc - then take the boat back to the resort.

The westin is across the river from the historic district in SAV, a quick shuttle ride across and you are on River street and a quick walk or pedicab ride from all the attractions, restaurants, and bars in the historic district...

Tough one to call. I'd take Charleston over Savannah but I'd take Tybee over Sullivan. Since you are not fishing, I give up.

What time of year? Charleston in summer has pretty much gotten to be too much for me to handle. Funny because I used to seek out the crowds and the action and loved being in the mix downtown.

Savannah could be just as bad but I doubt it, only been there once.

I live in Savannah. Crime isn't as bad as some make it out to be. I never feel unsafe. It's mostly thugs fighting thugs. We take the boat over to Daufuskie island every weekend. We sit on the beach until the tide comes in then go hang out at the bar on the other side of the island. Savannah has a ton of stuff to do also. Keep Hilton Head Island in mind as well.
