Default Windows 8.1 Pictures organizing question

Why oh why do they keep improving things just to make it more involved or unavailable?

First let me say, I take a lot of progress photos every day for work in commercial construction.
They are referenced often and need to be able to be found from days, weeks or months ago. This current project will last over 2 years.

Just got a new Toshiba Win. 8.1 for work. The entire row where what is needed is nowhere to be found......yet........ I hope.
Had a Samsung Win. 7. Arranging photo was a no brainer.
I had them in descending order by day/date.

As much as I have searched, I cannot find how to sort the Pictures by Day, Month, etc.

I can Sort by and Group by, that's not the issue.

So far it shows: Today, Last Week, Earlier this month.
There has to be a way to arrange them the way Win. 7 did.Searching the web so far has left me still at a loss.

Thanks for any direction/help.
EDIT:
The two attachments (using the Snipping tool) actually look like one attachment,
The top is Windows 8.1.Bottom, Windows 7.

What make and model of camera are you using?
I'm a keen photographer but use Win 7, after a hard drive failure I bought an external drive to store all my photographs on.

Using the software that came with my camera, I plug the camera directly into my PC . It then downloads from the camera into the directory 2015 I made on the external drive, each individual days photos are placed in their own folder with the date they were taken as the name on the folder. If you don't download every day, and have say five days of photos each day is still given it's own dated folder. It is simple to set it up too. Next year I'll make a 2016 directory and so on. By the way I use a Canon, but most camera do come with their own software these day.

Try sort by, then add column. Add date taken. By default its just date. Date taken however sounds photo specific.

Wont hurt to try
