They are the WORST I have ever dealt with, I absolutely hate them! They screwed me out of $400+ and refused to credit it back to me. The shocking thing is that I got the free trial through the dealer and I used a credit card to put a down payment so I could order the car. Some how XM got my credit card number and billed me for service when they never even turned on the XM in my car!!! The only way I can think of that they got my credit card was from the down payment I made with the dealer.

I have had 2 experiences with them where I was literally screaming on the phone. I told them I never ordered the service past the free trial, and how the hell did they get my credit card number? My wife pays the bills and she just thought I had XM in my car so she never said anything to me until we paid them over $400 for NOTHING!! I had a tech guy on the phone and he told me to get into the car and try to tune into XM, I could only get channel 1 so it was never turned on. About 5 minutes later he told me to try again and then I had XM. Then he said "can I help you with anything else?" Yes damnit I want a credit because I never ordered XM and it wasn't even turned on in my car. After screaming at 4 different people the last guy said "We don't owe you any money so we aren't going to credit you anything." Then he had the gall to ask if I was interested in a subscription to XM at a reduced cost! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sirius would qualify as a criminal operation.. Canceled the boat, will not renew the car because of new fees and local taxes that they cannot explain. Watch out for the auto renew. What is it with these media and phone companies?

Did you ever think of a charge-back dispute? And a conversation with your wife about questioning bills before assuming anything she doesn't know ...

When you cancel prepare to get 9 yellow envelopes per week. I have it because I can't stand South Florida radio I get the 6 month promo for $24 and use a visa gift card everytime.....that way they can't blast me for $80/month when my time is over.

The only reason I won't renew after my trial subscription is they only deal with automatic renew. I have heard enough horror stories that there's no way i would do that. I'll bet they'd make a shit ton more money if they simply had a discounted rate rather than a teaser rate and didn't give people crap when the want to cancel. They could have saved $50 in postage fees on me already and I would have happily paid them for a full year in advance...even two.

They are dirtbags if you need a refund! The check is ALWAYS in the mail. Ooooppps another error, wait another 8-10 business days. This is fraudulent. I wish the US atty general would investigate them. They are crooks.

If you have AMEX you can buy gift cards on their website with no service charge. Otherwise I always keep one visa/amex gift card around for renewal only purposes.

So this thread got me thinking today... I figured it was time I got a small victory so I called them on the way home from work. It went a little like this:

Me: I want to cancel my service
Her (weird accent I've never heard before): Oh I'm sorry to hear that. Did you get a new car?
Me: Nope. I just want to cancel
Her: Ok sir, I can do that for you. Do you mind if I ask why?
Me: When I subscribed it was only $12 a month, I just looked at my bill and now it's over $18 and you guys have cancelled about 10 of the channels over the years that I enjoy listening to. It's not worth $18 a month to me. I want to turn it off.
Her: I'm so sorry to hear that sir. How about if I offer you the next 6 months for $20?
Me: Actually that doesn't sound too bad.
Her: Oh I see you just paid us last month, I can refund $11 to your card and you call us before Jan 16, 2016 and ask for another discount before it renews.
Me: Ok I like the way that sounds.
Her: Just verify the credit card number for me
Me: Actually my account got hacked a few days ago (actually true) and I don't have a new card yet. When I called I was just looking to cancel
Her: Ok I can mail you a check for $11 and then invoice you before January and you can call back with your new card
Me: That sounds really good to me. Thanks!

It went just like that and I was off the phone in about 5 minutes. I get $11 in the mail (maybe from the comments above, either way I win this time), am good until Jan 2016 and then can call back in and get another promotional rate. Plus, as luck would have it they don't have my credit card number anymore so I will start using gift cards at that time and gain control over my account again.

I'm going to have a sirius radio until they blow up the satellite so this makes me happy. Terrestrial radio sucks balls around here unless you like country or country (which I can listen to and enjoy, but I get bored with it after a while and the commercials are worse than network TV now). With as much time as I spend in the truck every day it's worth it to me. I am not, however; going to ever pay them $18 a month again.

Thanks for the inspiration in this thread.

edit. Actually just looked at the confirmation email and it was $24.99 for the 6 months. Plus music royalty fee and tax of course. So for $31.56 I'm good until January. I'm ok with that.

The selection and variety on Sirius is lightyears better than what is available on the earthbound stations.

When I bought my 2014 Taurus it came with 6 months Sirius. I let it lapse and a couple months later I got offered 6 months for $30 so I took it.

When it came time to renew they tried to get a lot more money and they wanted my credit card number for the billing. I talked them down to something more reasonable. I also told them that I do not have a credit card. It was true at the time I did not have any credit cards so they would have to bill me which they did.

I have since gotten myself 2 credit cards but I still tell them I do not have any and they bill me for the service.

I was actually warned by the dealer that sold me my car not to ever give them a credit card number or you could never get rid of the service if you chose to.

Personally I love the choices I have with Sirius and I only listen to earthbound stations when listening to sports.
