Default Anything better than Sonos?

Going to take on the multi room audio in the new house. Wife won't let me do in wall speakers. My dad and brother-in-law are really in to Sonos and I will admit the functionality is great and the sound quality is acceptable but the price holy crap $1,400 plus tax for a sound bar and sub? The play 5 is $400 by the time I do the living room, kitchen, dining and sitting room I'll be $3,000 in to Sonos.

Anything better out there?

I love my sonos system -
4 speakers so far and planning to do a couple more in the kitchen.

Total flexibility.
Kids run their speakers in their rooms independent most of the time.
no sub yet, but planning on that too.

We love Sonos and have it at home and the beach house. You can use your own speakers with the Sonos amp. We did that at the beach for the garage with some rebuilt Bose 301s and we also did it on the back porch. Works like a champ. The soundbar and sub alone make for some great sound.

Love our Sonos setup as well. Started with a Play 5 for our covered patio a year or so ago and now have three Play 1s throughout the house as well as the playbar and sub. It's a big nut for the playbar and sub but I'm super happy with it. Best part is we have never listened to so much music and the damn TV is off!

Check out the Bose portable speakers. Excellent sound for minimal money.

Yeah it looks like there is nothing better than Sonos. I guess I will hop on the band wagon. Just put my order in to Crutchfield. 2X Play 3, 1X play 5 and 1X Sonos Amp. I threw in a Samsung 48" curved LCD too. The wife will be cool with that, right?

Got to say I love my SONOS. Just moved and will be adding some more components in the very near future. Already have a connect, connect AMP and 2 play3's. connectAMP is pretty impressive and was running a pair of older Klipsch outdoor speakers in my previous home - sounded awesome and as loud as I ever wanted it outside.

Sonos is the only toy that has received the seal of approval from my wife and kids, I bought 5 Play 3 and put on in each room plus one in the patio, it beats wiring the whole house and having only one or two different zones depending on your receiver. we can each be listening to our own choice of music at the same time, can't beat it. not cheap though

I just finished designing a 10k SF house and the plan is to outfit it with Sonos system.
Saves big $$ on wiring and the flexibility is endless.

Excuse my ignorance but what is the music source for the Sonos? Can you play a cd or a movie thru it?

How is running speaker wire that expensive?

Anything Digital.

ITunes, Pandora, XM. runs off your PC, MAC or smart phone.

Gotcha. I looked at the Play 5 and didn't see in inputs is why I was asking.

Sonos is great! Have it as well but Apple Music is the only thing I have found that doesn't play through it. There is an on line petition to get Apple to support it though. Hoping it is only a matter of time.

I typically use Pandora or my music on my phone. Great to be able to adjust the volume, change tracks, etc. right from my phone or Ipad!

there is a wireless 'bridge' that you sync with your wifi and then all the speakers sync with the bridge and that's it.
Just place (or move) a speaker where you want it and plug it in.
