Default Abdominal pain?

I've been diagnosed with diverticulitis before and have had symptoms of abdominal pain going on 3 weeks. When it started, doc gave me the antibiotics that have helped in the past. Took 10 days and it wasn't better, so he gave me another 10 days. After about 5 days of no change he ordered CT that I was sure would show diverticulitis again....but it didn't. In fact, it was normal, no abnormality at all, no masses, organs looked good, etc. It's lower left, from maybe a little above the navel to below it and sometimes it radiates to the middle and slightly right of center. Anyone had something similar to this? I have been under a tremendous amount of stress the last few months, more than usually, could it simply be stress related? I guess an endoscopy is next but wanted to bounce it off the crowd to see if anyone has had similar problems.

Sounds like chronic gas pain. That's the are of the small intestine you are describing.

That was one of many mis-diagnosis, before I finally found out I have Celiac; intolerance to gluten, which caused that, and about a dozen other symptoms. I'm not sayin.... just outting it out there for consideration.

I don't think you can do any harm trying a round of Prilosec OTC.

I had the same thing a few months ago. It got so bad one night I went to the ER. CT scan amd every other test was negative. After about 3 weeks it just went away. I never did get a diagnosis.

Interesting, what were your other symptoms? I've battled acid reflux my entire life and take one Pepcid AC daily. I'm not bloated and not full of gas. Could be parasites or a bug? I'm going back to Dr. tomorrow to see what we do next.

Wife had a pain in about the same area. Doctors could not find anything wrong.
She researched it herself. Cut out gluten and the pain went away after a few days.
She is not 100% celiac but has an intolerance for gluten to a point.
It's been several years now. No return issues.

Definitely acid reflux was an almost daily occurrence; chronic diahrrea, punctuated with constipation; joint pain that mimmics arthritis, abdominal pain, at times so bad I thought an appendix had burst; years of soft teeth enamel and fingernails; anemia, so severe that my doctor called me to his office after receiving my blood test report, and asked me how do I function.. how do I even get up and go to work every day...; frequent headaches... even migraine quality headaches; brain fog... reading an article, and not remembering much of it. I'm sure there was more.

I was told I have diverticulitis, IBS (irrital bowel syndrone), and other wrong diagnosis.

All of these symptoms disappeared, and have not returned, since being 100% gluten-free, since Jan 1998.

IGA and IGG blood tests are strong indicators, but the gold standard is an intestinal biopsy. See a gastroenteroligist.

Ever have a kidney stone? They can give some weird pain. Weird in a bad way. Sometimes you hurt in areas that don't seem to make sense.

It was stress for me. About four/five years ago I had the weight of the world on my shoulders (or so it seemed) and after a Herculean amount of effort that took a few years, got myself from under a rock. All that time I had a bad pain where you are describing. It has all but gone away now. If I have a particularly stressful day these days, the pain comes right back, which convinces that it was stress related.

Set a plan. Work the plan. Plan each day out. Execute that day with excellence. You can only do today's work today. Tomorrow's work is for tomorrow. Measure your progress. Keep your eye on the end goal. Work towards it. Exercise. Reduce your stress.

I would see a GI doctor, but for me it was stress once that was gone at those levels my stomach went back to normal.

I'm the expert on diverticulitis and it doesn't sound like the big D. If I was U I'd stick on the antibiotic and reduce my intake to chicken broth.

As suggested, you might want to see a GI guy and get an over/under scope in both ends. They could make a 24 hour video of mine as many time as I've been.

I had a similar pain, probably an ulcer. Doc said to take antacids, but that masks the problem, not actually a treatment. Treated myself for H.Pylori and it went away. What antibiotic did you get?

Look into SIBO, that can be another source for pain in the area you describe.

Are you also taking Metformin? This popular diabetes drug can wreck havoc on the intestines.

Not taking diabetes medications. GI has scheduled scope and may do from both ends, I told him to do the top first....

I also started taking a probiotic and seems to be better the last few days.

Do you drink bottled water?

If so, let me suggest a couple things:

1. Never, ever let your water get above room temperature. Do not leave it in the car. Has your problem gotten worse as the days get hotter?

2. Do not refill your water bottles.

3. Drink Nestle bottled water or another brand that does not have BPAs. In a decade or so, we will find out just how bad this crap is. I already know, and suffer with a BPA allergy. It SUCKS!!!

Hope you get better soon!

If probiotics helped, I would suspect it is bacterial or fungal related as the probiotics will attack some of them. Be careful with taking them though, as you can have die-off symptoms and taking too many probiotics at once can increase that chance. Keep very well hydrated, drink lots of water and stay away from sugars including alcohol to help the probiotics do their job.

Let us know what the doc says, and try not to stress out.

I know issues like these just help to increase stress so it's easier said than done, but try not to let it weigh you down more. Stress alone can cause havoc and manifest via physical symptoms.
