Default Apple tv and ipad karaoke question...tech gurus

I have a full DJ system that we use for Karaoke. Its a mixer, an amp, two speakers, three mics etc etc. The music usually comes from the ipad (using youtube) directly into the mixer via 1/8" audio jack.

I would like to have whats on the ipad show up on the tv screen through the Apple tv but NOT the audio. I still want the audio to come from the ipad. I could use my Mac laptop instead if any of you think that would work better.

Right now, when I connect to airplay it connects both audio and video to the tv and then my whole sound system becomes useless.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try this: Use your macbook. Use an HDMI cable to connect the macbook to the tv. You'll need either the displayport-to-hdmi adapter or the thunderbolt-to-hdmi adapter, depending on which macbook you have. Now you have the video from the macbook on the TV.
Now hook the stereo up to the macbook via the 1/8 headphone jack. If I remember correctly, that will mute the audio via the HDMI, and the audio output will be via the headphone jack.
