Default 2011-2012 Porsche 911 S

Has anyone had both? Is there a big difference in these series? Opinions? I'm looking for Silver/Black interior, PDK.

I have driven both the 997.2 and the 991.

The larger size of the 991 is definitely noticeable - makes it feel a bit more like a touring car. The 991 is unbelievably well balanced - taking much of the 911 "quirkiness" away - similar to the difference between the 996 and 997 and the 993 to 996, though the difference between the 993 and 996 is probably the most pronounced.

The 991 seems to focus on the visceral driving experience - there is engine noise piped into the cabin through the stereo, the exhaust and throttle mapping have been tuned to make all of the snap, crackle, and pops that make people smile.

Both are fantastic handling cars - and having seen the 991's be thrown around both at DE's as well as local autocross, I would say its extremely capable.

Personally - for a DE - I think the PDK is really freaking cool - but I just prefer to row the gears.

Tough choice either way. The general rule of thumb for new P-car owners....buy the newest one that you can afford.

"But we live in a world with a Porsche engineering department that still thinks fast cars shouldn't be tamed for fools. Raise a glass."

Looking at the 991. I like the PDK set up and the center console layout. Found one in Indy that's pretty loaded up. Reading where the new GT3 RS will only come with PDK.

Better have 500k for that new GT3RS

Turbos also only in PDK after 2009.....

IMHO PDK is great if you commute or track it exclusively... I cant imagine owning a weekend car and not rowing gears ...

You will love the 991 .. Great improvements ... Enjoy it

Went to the local dealer in KY today and they were unloading this baby. Over one million and the customer wasn't interested in coming down to look. It's actually a black car that Porsche wrapped for him. Just had to post...

Oh the idle rich. Just something to run to the yacht club in. I once had a college roommate who's father had a Maserati Ghibli that had 3K on the clock and sat for so long in the garage that the tires were flat.

Ghibli is Maseratis entry level car at 60k ... that probably what the clutch costs on the Carrera GT

Default I realize this is blasphemy but here goes !

Don't get me wrong, I love the Porsche brand, having had over 6 different from 76 thru my last one,a 911 turbo 2002 which was my favorite. I still have a Diesel cayenne which is very practical.
My point is this, why not consider a new or late model Vette ? Full warrnty, fast as hell and can be had for 50-60k ? I know about the cache of a porsche but it's hard to beat the logic of a new car. I'm ready for the day of reckoning from you guys.

Add another $5 grand to the 60, and you're in 2007/2008 Porsche Turbo money that has a likely hood of appreciating, versus a basic Vette that's worth 1/2 what you paid for it in 3 years.
Which would you like o go out in the garage and grin at? Porsche Turbo, or new Vette?

If you ever want to track it you are going to need something to keep the transmission from overheating.

of the 2015's - 3 for 3 went into trans overheat mode.... 2 at Roebling and one at Sebring. Capable cars - but needs some work.
