That's a tough call, the 997 C2 is an all around better car, styling, interior, handling. But the 996TT engine is the last true race motor dropped into the 911 turbo. The 996TT is also currently at the bottom of its depreciation curve, in the next 5-10 years it is projected to go up in value, and by a healthy amount.

Personally I like the 997 C2 more, but I'd get the 996TT, knowing that I'd be able to sell it in 7 years for everything I have in it costwise, including gas and maintenance cost, over the life of ownership. Free Porsche ownership is the best type of ownership. And it 7 years 997 C2s and 981 cayman s cars will be cheap enough to pick up for close to the appreciation amount of the 996TT in that time frame.

You may want to steer him to ask the question on the rennlist forums. For input from other P car guys, or you can cut and paste my response and email address in there.
Even though I am in my mid 20s I am a p-car owner and avid enthusiast. Your son hit the nail on the head with his response, I feel the exact same way. For the money the best used p-car you can get right now is the 996tt. If I was able to upgrade right now that is what I would get for sure. Recently spoke with someone who was talking to Magnus Walker and apparently he is in the market for a 996tt right now which says something..

There are 3 P cars on my list right now that I would buy... actually 4....

996 Turbo
964 Series 911
912 series
914-6

All because of the appreciation thats happening or going to happen.

The 996 T is FAR AND AWAY the best bet out there in P car land....

I agree it will probably appreciate a bit ... problem with the 996TT is most people think its not the best looking car out of the 911 TT range ...

IMHO the 2009 977.1TT will be the collector car ... Last Mezger and last turbo with a 6MT .... least amount built of the 997TT range ... only 583 built for the USA...

Ahhhh... 928 - a true bastard of a P-car. Front engine, 8cyl.... hated and revered at the same time.

Love it!
