That British article is full of delusion and ignorant wishful thinking. What happened to the days of professional journalism ?

Same rhetoric, different day! The people that spew this stuff have got to be really stupid. Good guys with guns are not the problem. They seem to bi-pass the facts to suit their agenda. All of these stories (or at least most) are illegal in some form or another. In other words, people are breakng laws already in place. Take the bikers in Waco. As a legal CCW holder, it is illegal to carry a firearm into a bar. So, these guys broke the law as soon as they walked through the door. Nobody seems to get that. This 21 yo white punk had some issues that are looking like he shouldn't have had a gun. We already have a federal background check on handguns, and it has worked for many years. Criminals are the problem, not law-abiding gun owners.

"Gun Control" is coming, no doubt about it. I think the NRA needs to start thinking about how they are going to be the ones driving and shaping the policy, otherwise they are going to find themselves on the wrong side of history.

I had to put on some tall boots to shovel my way through that article.

The sad part is, some people will actually believe it's good, accurate, honest journalism.

Johnny, gun control is not coming to the free American states. The momentum is actually the other way, to more broadly interpret "The Teeth" of the Bill of Rights, the Second Amendment.

You are a bright, thoughtful guy. Can I ask how you interpret the 2nd Amendment?

Fair is fair, so I'll go first:

The right of the people [the right of every American over 18yo and not a criminal] to keep and bear arms [to own and carry firearms like rifles, shotguns and pistols] shall not be infringed [shall not be regulated away].

Thanks for playing!

Rapi,

Your interpretation of the Amendment seems sound to me.

I don't see where it says certain Americans are excluded though? Where did you get that from?

Upon reflection, I now have noticed that I don't see where "arms" is limited in the Amendment to those that are currently allowed.

How did that happen?

Further, I thought it prudent to get to the actual meaning of the words...

amendment
əˈmɛn(d)m(ə)nt/Submit
noun
a minor change or addition designed to improve a text, piece of legislation, etc.

I don't think there is a finite amount of "amendments"...so more can be made?

Though as demonstrated, that is not even deemed necessary as the "infringed" part is a bit wishy-washy at best.

Though not infringed upon, your rights have been curtailed. More curtailing is around the corner.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Our right to keep and bear arms will not be fully taken away in yours or my lifetime. There's a lot, but not quite enough pussys to make that happen.

Of course the NRA will be even more vilified and "on the wrong side of history" if gun control advocates are successful.

As I see it, "gun control" advocates will not cease their calls for more gun control until guns are banned. Some may say that is not the case, but look at some of the NJ "gun control" laws that extend from guns down to paintball guns, bow and arrows, bb guns, air rifles, sling shots (yep). IMO the best way the NRA can shape the policy is to prevent it.

I'm waiting for when they finally get around to "responsibly regulating" nail guns.
