Help me understand why in the world a swat team is conducting these inspections??

Sounds more to me like they thought there were drugs and weapons in the house and when they found nothing they used the gas service BS.

Would be interested to see the warrant under which they conducted the raid. Code violations don't neccessiate a search of the home.

If someone busts into your home unannounced and fires a weapon do you have the right to kill them too?

I agree. I have to think the other side of the story has a lot more to it than code violations. I don't know of any law enforcement agency that has a swat team that does code violations. The story sort of has a foul odor to it.
