and he only won by two votes.

I can see how this could happen. It says Michigan, but that's just like Florida with snow.
The article says town of 8,000, so maybe 4-5,000 voters, assuming 15% turnout, like has happened here before, gives you 600 voters total, half that is only 300 people. Assuming he knows how the game is played, 200 of them could be dead.
He only needs another fifty people, as long as they vote twice, That is one case of smokes, one case of wine, and a church bus.

Him and his brother vote and he's over the top, there's your two vote victory.

If you want to count it again, I could make it four.

He and his brother can probably both write.

All kidding aside, I wonder what the story was with the guy who lost?

Could this be one of those offices where the same guy runs unopposed again and again?

I know I see some of those in my district, I just wonder why nobody ever wants their job.

At least at 19 he probably isn't in any groups pocket. Sometimes the offices NEED to be shook up, so everyone sits up and takes notice. I heard that his "office" was going to be in his bedroom since he still lives at home.....

"I think the first couple of days will be tough for me" It makes perfect sense to have an 18 year old mayor, the current town officials will be able to get alot of crap passed, with a kid on the job. The bribes will be much easier too,6 pack of beer,Lolipops, video games, whatever kids like.

It was a contested election with an established encumbent (who appears to have been more vulnerable than the politicians realized). The kid financed his campaign with the $600 he had saved from his summer job.

I remember a kid younger than that was elected mayor of a town in Texas about 20 years ago. At the time, the age minimum only applied to incorporated towns so his "office" may not really had any authority since it was an un-incorporated area.

Plus in most small towns the mayor is only a ceremonial type position. The decisions are made by city council and the mayor is onlya moderator and tie-breaker as needed.
