She took a plea deal to avoid Life in Prison!! Sometimes I think we live in Saudi Arabia. On the other hand murderers in Detroit often only get 10 years but this lady gets 15 years for sleeping with a 15 year old - ridiculous

The female judge in the case said the following:
Grant said she received letters supporting Ronk, but none supporting the teen.
"They were all about you and what you were going through. Poor you," the judge told Ronk. "To ignore a crime and a victim and an ongoing involvement in school, outside school, in a car. You did something you shouldn't have done."

All the 15 year old's buddies, and his father are high fiving him, only his mother and the female judge want to throw away the key. The only long term damage this kid will have is the guilt that he is partly to blame for this lady spending 15 years in jail.

Tough one... When I was 15 I would have given my left arm to...

On the other hand, if an adult male teacher messed with my 15 year old daughter...

Just saying these female teacher cases really conflict me.

And 15 years seems really, really harsh.

I don't get it either. When I was 15 I was trying to screw anything I could (without a lot of success) and I'm sure this kid wasn't much different.

Yes, what she did was wrong, but the punishment seems a bit harsh, especially if had sex previously and was a willing participant.

There was a band teacher at my HS that went to jail for 30 years for sex with a 15 year old girl. He got caught for it years later but I knew both of them.

The girl pursued him for months and wasn't hard to look at(didn't look 15).

Is he wrong? Of course.

Should he go to jail? Sure.. Although if you knew the girl it didn't negatively affect her and years later she says he never should have gone to jail(accepts she cornered him for months).

For 30 years? Come on.

15years for mutual sex. But the drug dealer who will sell your kid drugs that could kill them only gets a few years if that.

Yup makes sense.

Takes two to tango so to speak.

If it did happen to your daughter she probably bares some of the blame.

A 15 year old is capable of deciding who they do or don't want to mess around with.

An adult is capable of knowing right from wrong.

Some cases the 15 year old could be the aggressor and in those cases I think punishment should be less severe(if proven/admitted).

In cases where a straight up scumbag used his/her position of power and blackmailed some young person into doing something I'd say the punishment should be severe.

Everything isn't just black/white.

This is a really good point. The guilt would mess me up a whole lot more than the extra boost of confidence that I gained from the experience would.

Too excessive IMO. Need to make room for real criminals like the politicians in Washington.

Sounds a lot like victim blaming and a defense a pedophile would use.

A grown man/woman can't resist a 15 year old? 15 year olds are immature FRESHMEN in high school.

If you want to bang 15 year olds you are a f******* pervert.

Fwiw in a lot, if not most other countries consensual sex with a 15 year old is perfectly legal... Are they all pedofiles? Heck right here in the good old USA it was perfectly legal up until the 1900's

At what point is this just another example of failed prohibition?

Years ago you the teacher could just deny it happened. Today there are texts, cell phone records, photos, e-mails.

Take gender out of the equation. Should a teacher bang a 15 year-old? Teachers are in a position of authority and should not be taking advantage of a student. Fortunately, the judge enforced the law and did not perpetuate a double standard that exists in cases like this.

Seems harsh no doubt especially since she will not be the only one punished. Kids, husband and family are naturally mortified and who knows how much social stigma would be put on the kids.

The fact she was in a position of authority makes it a definite no no and the fact she was well aware of the consequences since this isn't the first documented case in recent history.

15 years for that seems just to harsh. Probation, no more teaching, registering the rest of her life seems quite enough in my mind. After all she will live with that stain the rest of her life.

It sucks all the way around.

Talk about F___'d up....................

The former Nitschmann Middle School principal who sold crystal methamphetamine from the Bethlehem school is collecting a $4,058 monthly pension.
The Public Employees' State Retirement System released the details of John Acerra's pension in response to a Right-to-Know request filed by The Express-Times.

Acerra resigned as principal of Nitschmann in March 2007 shortly after his February arrest. He was released from state prison in May 2009 and is currently on probation.

Google "Principles convicted of selling drugs in school", lots of cases and only a couple of years in jail.

BTW, this teacher isn't done as some charges are in a different county and she could get even more time.

Thankfully, I'm a victim of one of these predators, plus she had a XK-140 that I got to drive. Yes, I was 15 and it was the best couple of months of my life. I do think that in many ways we were more mature at 15, 50 years ago than most of the sheltered 15 year olds of today.

Perhaps he could atone with a few conjugal visits.
