Default Need a New Roof Sarasota/Bradenton Fl... and some advise

So I have known for a few years that the roof was going to need to be replaced sooner than later. Had a good storm last night and ended up with a leak in the garage so it's time to get this thing done.

1st question: Where if anywhere does home owners insurance play into replacing a roof? I assume it does not as it's normal maintenance, but I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with it.

2nd. Anyone know any quality roofing companies in this part of Florida?

Any other advise will be well taken.

Thanks,

Kyle

Luckily we had a (short) hail storm last year. 10 of the 18 homes in our subdivision got new roofs from insurance. I say luckily, because all the homes are between 14 and 17 years old and would be needing new roof in the next 5 years or so.

Edit to add: Our insurance (USAA) paid about $20,000 for the new roof. Ouch. However I've been a USAA customer for auto/home/boat/etc for 26 years and that's my first claim.

Steve @ Apex Roofing 727-400-2200. He's a really good dude and a firefighter.

Lemme ask the in-laws who they used, they just had their roof redone last year. Company did a really good job. Wasn't cheap...but ya get what ya pay for.

As for homeowners insurance- if it was a storm-created opening, they might pay to fix the leak....but they aren't footing the bill for the whole roof, or even a depreciated portion of it.

Do you dive under the boat and tug on the line to make her think she has a bite?

My gf had Hershberger do hers a few years ago. They've done a lot of roofs in her development and I've heard only positive reviews. She was impressed that Mr. Hershberger himself comes to the jobsite and gets on the roof after it's stripped to inspect the sheathing and determine any required repairs.
