I grew up with horses and have never seen a horse afraid of water. Makes you wonder how the horse is kept. Not trying to be controversial. Just never seen it before.

Afraid was my word, he looked more tentative than fearful.

She is a true horse person. She was damned good in how she worked that horse and got its confidence.

We have a young mare QH that would LAY DOWN in the water WHILE YER IN THE SADDLE

Took some time to break her of that.

Yes, that young lady took the correct approach in introducing her horse to the water. The horse trusted her, which means she has put in the time doing the ground work to build that trust and to ensure that the horse is the follower, and not the leader.

I'll throw this into the mix. I had a Black Lab who couldn't swim, dog nearly drowned (twice). We have a Golden who hates water, doesn't like to get wet and is afraid of shot gun blast

I had a quarterhorse that feared water. She'd put on a full reverse when she stepped up to a stream.

We went horseback riding all the time in high school. I always got this one horse, Trooper, who would not cross this little bridge over water, no way.
