Default Mustang

Still looking for a 4 to 5 grand vehicle with a stick that can burn some rubber and have some late life fun with. What can you tell me about this vintage - I think it is the next one after the Fox body but before the ones I don't like (the looks of) at all. Do like the post 04 retro look but they are $$ and no room for a 6'2" driver with that super wide console.

what does the width of the console have to do with how a tall person fits in the car?
Maybe a wide person would not fit

Good way to haul some a$$ with out spendind too much money. The car in the ad is a foxbody. Parts are easy to find and not really expensive.

After reading the ad I'd say its got everything you need already. Only thing I would do (if it's not already done) is 3.73 gears.

Decent amount of mods on that one. I would suggest getting "battle boxes" installed if you really plan of beating it up

Just an FYI, that body style is the Fox Body.

Fox bodies are quickly becoming harder to find in good shape, so the survivors - the ones that have not yet been trashed or put out to pasture - are starting to fetch a decent amount of money. $5,000 should find you a decent car, but definitely do your homework on the car before writing the check.

The ad only mentions bolt-on mods.

Good question. I have very long legs and sorta relatively short upper body. You normally "cock" your gas pedal leg and lean your knee area on the console. With the new Mustang you have to drive with the leg straight down (albeit knee bent) to the pedal. This is very uncomfortable after a short time. Hard to describe

Good news Thanks didn't know that.

Good catch! I do find GM cars easier to work on and more comfortable in general. Always figured one thing I missed out on as a kid was owning one of these - even the original 3 on the floor 6 cyl!!!!

That is a foxbody with body accessories (from the factory). Bolt ons are decent but the price seems high for this area anyway. Those cars were fast for their day but are pigs by todays standards. (with MODS that car probably makes around 260-280 hp while newer model V6's are making 300+ today)

I have a 2007 Mustang GT, I know exactly what you're referring to, but they actually make a pad that sticks to the center console that you can buy for $20 and it makes it comfortable to rest your knee on. I have about 160,000 miles on mine....I bought the pad at about 100 miles.

I think you would be MUCH better off to spend a few more dollars and get a 2005+ GT.

Newer cars are more refined but a nicely modded foxbody is a lot more fun and cheaper to own. That one has a lot of mods and should be well together once its all installed. The cam is a little small for that setup, It will hold back from making a lot of power but will probably drive a lot nicer. But you better know, that car has been beat on hard.

I dont like GTs myself, I want a coupe but you better double the price to get a decent one

Battle boxes or torque box modifications strengthens the area where the lower lateral links bolt to the frame. All it takes it a good "hookup" and you have a twisted frame.

If you have very long legs, you will want to spread the knees a bit, and a wide console will definitely get in the way. I am in that category, and if I had my way center consoles would go away with the shift selector moved to the dash or the column.

Did you know the history. They really changed the marketing as it became a sports car and guys were modifying them and racing and almost no women bought them - the Camaro came out - which indeed was a real chick car. The stock versions were also faster and better handling cars.
