Default tipping

I'm tired of having to tip everybody. Right now I'm sitting in front of outback waiting on curbside to go for food that was supposed to be ready 12 minutes ago. Why should we be expected to tip for someone doing their job? If the price to buy something is $120, charge me $120. Don't charge me $100 and tell me I need to pay your employees, beacause your business would fail if you paid them an honest wage. I'm tired of enabling this tax evasion scheme.

Perhaps if you would have tipped it would have been ready 12 minutes ago?

Quit bitching/being cheap and move to Europe. The delivery guy should get screwed because the kitchen is backed up?

Why doesn't his boss just pay him? Simple concept, employer pays employee for work done. I pay a a lot of money in payroll taxes, why does the service industry get to hide a large portion of their income?

I'd post her picture and let THT vote, but that might come off as creepy.

One the same note, I was at iHop this morning and when I got the bill it had included on it a calculation of what a 20%. 25% and 30% would be... for your convenience. Was nice.... but what happened to 15%? I always do seem to tip about 20% or more but... it seems presumptuous to just assume doesn't it? And... speaking of that, when I get those automatic tips for a party of 6 or more I normally WOULD have tipped more than that... but I don't when they do that. So they miss out. Unless the service is so spectacular I feel the need to at least. But they take a risk doing that. I suspect many do the same.

So, should there be a flat fee for bringing your food out to the car?
Or should they raise the prices across the board, so inside diners have to pay for your curbside service?
Or maybe you should be able to sit on your butt in the parking lot, and they should serve you out of the kindness of their hearts.
You could get off your ass and walk inside, and you wouldn't have to tip anyone.
I don't tip if I order carry out, any more than I tip at McDonalds.
And my wife is a server, so I get it, and I'm not cheap.

I can tell you, it's also not a tax evasion scheme for servers, because they have to clam tips.
There is very, very little my wife doesn't have to claim, especially since pretty much everyone pays with a card now, so she's paid with a check.
You just signed a bill, so you paid with a card. They get taxed on that.
The tip system actually works quite well, and the premise of the tip is to make the compensation performance based.
They don't do a good job, the tip suffers.
The glitch in the system is one in which the server gets screwed.
That's when someone gets vindictive about an issue outside of the servers control, and takes it out on them. Like the example Torfed just gave.
And that's messed up.

Oh, and happy birthday!
