Tip if the iceberg. As streaming becomes the norm, 100.00 for decent internet is not too far off.

Yep that's all these companies' game.

Call them and tell them to disconnect it.

Wait a few days before setting up a different service, they will likely call you back as a "favorite customer" with a much better deal.

PS there are horror stories about att and their "no contract" claims . . . no contract but there is a hefty "early termination" fee.

Good luck. I change every time the "promotion" ends, cable company calls back every time.

$68 for DSL- YOW!

We get 60 Mbps cable internet for less than that.

We 3 Mbps DSL at our cabin. For $65, we get that, plus local and unlimited long distance telephone service.

I have uverse and my DSL got in the high 50s for 6mbps. I called them and said "transfer me to your customer retention department." I just told them this is getting ridiculous and I'm not going to keep them if it's going to be this expensive. Within 5 minutes we had a new deal of a $50 service call and switching to their cable router. Now I pay $28 for 24mbps. It was pretty simple.

Call them to cancel service. Be adamant. They will lower your bill. I did this for two years with ATT before I said screw it and changed network providers

Holy crap! $68 a month for DSL Internet? I must be really out of touch or something. I pay $19.99 a month (5 year guarantee) through Qwest here in AZ.

You were supposed to call them at the end of your promotional period. Every provider has a "promotional" price. So its just part of the game. They will extend that and probably up your speed for the same old price on top of that. Then tell you to call again next year! They did me... if you don't call they will be glad to take your money. Its up to you.

Yup...but someone does have to pay for the infrastructure. Everyone wants HD quality Netflix/streaming, that takes a BIG bandwidth, and since so many support net neutrality where the providers can charge Netflix/Youtube more for being such hogs, they have to charge someone.

*note - I do not work for a provider, but I do manage a multinational network infrastructure. As I tell my GF's kids, "bandwidth ain't free."

My comrat access of 50Mbs and TV bundle is horribly unreliable with frequent server problems. Call, echat . . . whatever. They could care less. Naturally, I'm on their "call for upgrade" list.

So I politely ask them every time: why would I spend significantly more for what you say will be faster connectivity when I run speed tests all the time and provide you the results that demonstrate how bad you are?

Crickets - - - -

As soon as fiber is available, I'll be on board; don't really care about the price; just get me onto something that gets close to my on fractional I had years ago back when "broadband" was new and friends gaped at "high speed."

Uhhh, I believe the 'net neutrality' issue involves everyone being treated equally. Meaning, the hogs can't hog just because they can afford to pay more. And meaning the casual user will pay through the nose. Enjoy your smart phone while you can afford it ...

We just cancelled our comcast when it reached $85.

Its a pain in the ass but I don't believe in rewarding companies for shitty service, so I don't give them a chance to regain my business at a cheaper rate, I fire them and move on to the next one.

Switched to uverse, $20 flat rate for a year.

? For ATT users. Is the DSL download speed good enough for movies. I want to dump Comcast also. I'm tired of crappy service for $80+ a month. Will the DSL work for movies and downloads from Netflix and Hulu or do I need to have uverse. Att told me that they have to boost the signal so I don't have uverse yet. It's less than 4houses up the street.

No issues whatsoever. Bandwidth has been more than adequate and very and I mean very stable - for my area.

It is just the price that is getting to me.

I'm paying 63 for cable internet. No TV no phone. I've priced shopped and as much as I would like to pay less the only other option is way slower DSL for not much different money.

Just know what you are buying. I know MANY people who get rid of their 6meg dsl because uverse is faster and cheaper. Only to find they were sold a 3 meg uverse circuit.
