"In those days, to do a song cover, you had to get permission from the artist. So [Devo co-founder] Gerald Casale and I went to the Rolling Stones' manager's office in Manhattan and Mick Jagger came in and he just kind of looked at us. We put the record on the turntable, and after about 30 seconds, he jumps up and starts dancing around to it. Then he said to us, [in a British accent] 'That's my favorite version of this song!' To us, even that he was in the same room was pretty overwhelming."

Here is a surprise...

Faith No More doing "Easy". For a RHCP type band he does sound a lot like Lionel Richie.

This/\

The best album of covers was Two Rooms Celebrating Elton John. Some amazing work by great artists. The Who killed Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting!!

Also check Don't let the Sun go down On Me on the Lost Sons soundtrack....

It shows Elton' John's genius that his songs have been covered by so many artists.

Eva Cassidy does a great "Songbird"

How about Smash Mouth's reprise of "I'm a Believer" a little ditty made popular by the Monkeys although it was originally a Neil Diamond tune.

Here is Sebastian Bach (Skid Row) nailing Journey's "Don't stop believing". The dude has the pipes. For a real laugh go to the 4:45 minute mark and listen to the Steel Panther guitarist give his singer crap for not sounding like SB.

I cannot believe that I forgot about this one. Even all the musty hippies and disco dancers on this site will have to admit that this version is superior to the original.

+1 There is no doubt the cover can sing it exceptionally well. But I prefer the additional depth and drive of the original with a real band behind the voice myself.

I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston & Without You - Mariah Carey are both remakes that were better than the originals.

Ha! I knew I'd get kicked in the nuts for posting but -
a) Turn the Page had already been posted
b) Those were two really popular remakes that went huge compared to the originals.
Now, back to my glass of chardonnay...
