Default Russians Disable US Guided Missile Destroyer

Time to get another plan. My uncle was involved in developing the Aegis system when he was second man in charge at Louisville Naval Ordnance. Man they came up with some bad ass guns.

The Russians are making this claim. I do not think this is possible and there is no way the Russians could know what happened on the ship's computers.

The other thread says this has been proven to be a hoax.

Still looking for the "Hoax" proof... Maybe we'll learn more when the Russians start flying bombers into the Gulf of Mexico.

Cowboys vs Comies in the 21st century? Awwwlllriiiiiiiiiiight!!!!!

The commies EMP'd a US Navy ship? And the Navy ship is adrift? Its best weapon systems neutered?

IF it happened, it happened by choice.

I am willing to bet something happened, but what was written in this article, ain't it.

Someday, when America is desperate enough and has a president with cojones, our gubbermint might ask me to design weapons for our military. Even without me, all of the modern world's technology, to include our mil tech, will take a HUGE leap forward in the next 30 years.

Despite our horrid economy, our mil will leverage itself from the only super power to the only hyper power. Our capabilities to knock out a single terrorist to an entire Soviet Bloc/Fulda Gap-style of attack will grow exponentially.

Don't worry about little crap like this. This is just little vladi showing off to his billionaire buddies what their tax dollars/rubles supposedly bought. Even an emperor is accountable to someone.

if this is true, I wonder why it hasn't made national news?

After the incident, the foreign media reported that "Donald Cook" was rushed into a port in Romania. There all the 27 members of the crew filed a letter of resignation. It seems that all 27 people have written that they are not going to risk their lives. This is indirectly confirmed by the Pentagon statement according to which the action demoralized the crew of the American ship.

Really?
Didn't know an enlisted person could resign from the military. Times must have changed.

Russian propaganda

“The State Department acknowledged that the crew of the destroyer USS Donald Cook has been gravely demoralized ever since their vessel was flown over in the Black Sea by a Russian Sukhoi-24 (Su-24) fighter jet which carried neither bombs nor missiles but only an electronic warfare device.”

Yeah right....

Sounds like something the N Koreans would come up with.

Being an ex-Aegis Class sailor, I don't need internet links to fly the BS flag on this one. If any disabling was done it would be the other way around.

Just more Infowars disinfo... Carry On.

I call B*llsh*t on this! The electronics in military equipment has been rad hard for decades! I know because I worked on developing a lot of this technology! An EM pulse big enough to fry an entire ship would vaporize the plane deploying it too!

When the internet first began, there were a couple dozen of us who got together in a tiny, obscure little corner. We discussed future wars, tech and weapons. One of us would trial balloon a weapon and the others would play devil's advocate.

I became a huge proponent of kinetic weapons. The most direct and feasible way of powering a kinetic weapon is to use the earth's orbital gravity with a starting point of, say, the height of a geo-synchronous satellite. Yet...as other members of the corner challenged me, I came to realize that a single projectile was less than optimum as a weapon. With help from others who could run the math (hard for me, a simple interested layman, but quite easy for some of these guys), eventually I concluded that at least three projectiles impacting in a simultaneous equilateral brace surrounding a target would optimize destruction.

In fact, if you used the earth's rotational speed as a starting point and boosted the projectile's speed <3x using the power of current rockets, one could conceivably attain velocities of 1/10,000C. That is ~65,000 miles per hour.

Do you fathom that speed? Now imagine not one, but three, projectiles the size of telephone poles striking simultaneously in an equi-distant brace along the perimeter of iran's largest nuclear site. Figure each side of the triangle's perimeter would measure one mile, or 2 km.

The destruction inside the perimeter would be...absolute. NOTHING man-made could possibly survive.

Well, non-explosive, ultra-high velocity weapons was my kink. Others came to the table with their own passions and perversions.

The tech problems almost always came down to power source (what type of engine) and power supply (gasoline, battery, etc.) When mankind overcomes, or at least advances these capabilities, the weapons that shall come online will be many generations ahead of what we have now.

Most agreed that, if the aforementioned limitations could be expanded, the most fretful weapons would resemble swarms of bees. Think about it. If a swarm of 1,000 semi-autonomous, mechanized bees were to attack you tomorrow, how would you fight back? I will allot you any weapon(s) you choose, bar none, without limitations. What would you pick? Not a single weapon in any of the world's arsenals could begin to counter this threat.

Is anyone still reading?

Here is what became bizarre. We would formulate these hypothetical weapons together, in the magic of cyberspace, seemingly anonymously. Yet, within 1-2 years, we would see DARPA soliciting proposals for similar projects. WTF??? The more refined (read, vetted by peers and perfected by hundreds of posts of challenges, rebuttals and revisals) the idea became, the more likely DARPA would offer up a proposal. Very, very strange.

Finally, this really, really smart guy (a Canadian who lived in a cabin north of Toronto), objected. Soon after, momentum in the group dissipated and fell apart. Most of us left.

So, what kinda chit be Rapi making these days? At the practical level, I have only built a single weapon. It's probably illegal, but I don't GAF. Very infrequently, a friend will come over and ask what I have in the back of the safe, all covered up. I tell them it's none of their business. Truth is, though the principles are sound, it's very difficult for me to test my device, so I'm not quite sure of its effectiveness. Suffice to say, if my home were surrounded by a couple hundred zombies, or if mayor bloomburgler sent a posse of nypd down to serve a no knock warrant for my firearms...let's just say that if I had two minutes warning, I would probably withstand the attack and walk out victorious.

Then again...maybe I'm just some dumb, drunk moron prattling away on a keyboard waaaay too late on a Friday night. Reader discretion is advised.

These days, I have set my sites on designing rather mundane subject matter, like shirts and buttons.

Rapi LOVES global warming!!!
