Default Gas price differences

This is an observation of ours, not a solicitation as to what we should have done in advance.

We took a trip to visit relatives on S W Missouri, about a month and a half ago. Out path was I 75 to Chattanooga then I 24 to Rt 60. Let me mention that we averaged 34.7 MPG in our Camry, thus giving 400 miles between fill ups.
With certain states, we saw gross differences in gas prices.
Georgia went between $3.06 and 3.21.
N C wasn't bad 3.02 to 3.14
Missouri was 2.94 in Springfield and 3.05 along rt 60
The worst was Kentucky. The prices were 3.04 on the south side along 24 and 3.42 just before the KY-MO border (the awesome Mississippi river). We concluded that county taxes made up the difference.
On the way back, we waited until we were in the part of KY where the prices were lower and stopped into a Love's. I mentioned to the desk clerk what we saw. he said the county taxes was the culprit. He also said they ( Loves) would not set up a filling station in those counties because they did not want to charge that much more than in their other stations.

Now my question: Is there a website with info on what prices are charged in what areas? Although the 38 cents more per gallon is a moot point in our car, I am retired from planning (and solving problems) for manufacturing, and hate to go somewhere without planning. Also, if we take the SUV I get 17 on the road and 9 towing the boat.

Gasbuddy.com and there's an app you can run on a smart phone. Been using it for years to reduce gas costs for our trips to Canada.

Down load the GasBuddy ap, with location services, on your phone. Gives you local gas by price or distance.

I paid $2.75 this morning.

At these prices it almost makes me want to fill the boat up before I lay her up for the winter.

I saw 2.59 last night. It is weird. I feel like I have to get gas even though I don't need it.

I saved $.50/gal on diesel by going across the river to NJ Sunday. Put 34 gal in the truck and filled up 5 20L cans.

Man, 3 bucks for a low anywhere around here.
Maybe if you drive and search $2.97 but that's as low as I've seen in a long while.

bought some e-free a couple weeks ago at the gas station that had the $2.59 regular yesterday. E-free was about $3.20 there 2 weeks ago. Bet it's down some more.

Marina gas is jacked up whether it's e-free or not. Doesn't matter.

Marina fuel, as we all know, is expensive but............................it's also a bad time of the year for it to come down. They likely won't reduce the price much because they need to sell what they have in the tank at the profit they need in reference to the higher price they paid to get it originally. Now if a marina has ordered recently, the price may be lower. Boat traffic around here has definitely slowed since peak summer season, not sure about where all of you are. That high priced gas will take longer to get rid of

No E0 here in MA at stations. You can get it in cans from performance shops. $9.99/Qt, $29.99/Gal or $119.99/5 Gal for 94 Octane ethanol free.

In response to the OP, you don't have to go that far to see a spread in gas prices. On Monday I went down the Florida turnpike and the first rest area was 2.95/gallon, the next one was $3.15/gallon. Forty miles down the road and the goes up .20 WTF?

Paid $281.9 at the Cumberland Farms station on rt 18 in Whitman this morning. If you are one of their Smart Pay members it's $.10 less.

A smartphone AP does not help as we have dumb phones, and very limited internet on the road. We can access the internet if we stop at a fast food joint and go wifi
Found a few which keep current on the price. One is Loves, another is the TA chain of travelers stops.
I was just looking for something we could access in a motel room with WIFI for planning the next day.
Being we are retired, going to do more travelling by land (and water).
thanks guys, I'm done

I didn't fill up the other day when I mentioned seeing $2.59...I needed it today and it was $2.54 for regular. Checked the e-free pump while I was there and it was $2.94 for e-free 93.

This is a site a lot of truckers use. You just put in where you are going, fuel capacity, mileage, etc and it spits out where you should stop and how much fuel to put in the tank to pay the least over the whole trip.
