Default Igloo Sportsman 55qt cooler

So I broke down and bought a rotomolded cooler. Almost went for a yeti but when comparing price and size the igloo looked better. As many people have already mentioned SAMs carries it for $199 plus tax. Saw the same cooler at a west marine just have a different logo at the bottom and they want $349. Crazy price difference.

Anyway, used it the week of 9/29/14-10/4/14 when prefishing a tournament. Never took the cooler off the boat or the drinks out. Just added a little ice at the end of each day and drained what water was there. Keep the drinks nice and cold and one less thing the lug back and forth.

Well after the week of fishing I was interested in how well it would hold the ice so I performed my own little test. I placed the cooler in my garage for safe keepings. It is not climate controlled and temps ranged from low 70s-80s during the week of the test in my garage. Of course this isn't the greatest example of the test but none the less it gave me a pretty good idea of how well it would perform.

The cooler had been iced down all week so it was pre-chilled when starting which will make a difference as well with the test. I started with a few drinks left from the trip, no water, and ice packed to the top. Lasted roughly 6 days with me opening only once daily to take the pictures. Also, no water was drained throughout those days as well.

Here's the run down of the pictures!

Started 10/5/14 and ran through 10/11/14

Hope you enjoy!

I wonder if it makes a difference between crushed ice or cubed on how long it lasts?

I'm sure it might! I do know if you add a nu ice pack or something similar it will last ALOT longer. This was done with just ice though

I've noticed I get better performance in my Yeti when I buy a 20 pound bag as apposed to two 10 pounds bags. Its something about the core temperature of the ice I believe.

It's a little tough to measure exact but I'd say to be safe 29.5" x 16.25" on the bottom.

These are the dimensions off the website at the largest point which is near/at the top.
L 30.375" X W 17.974" X H 16.400"

It has nice rubber feet as well to keep it from sliding. It didn't move in the boat the entire week unless we picked it up to do so.

And it's got a really nice drain that doesn't get clogged up

I was thinking the same thing about the beer! I think that is the first time I've seen a nicely iced down cooler with no beer!

Thanks for the post. I can see me doing one of those when I replace the one on my boat, great report.

Oh, and since I bought a Yeti tumbler I already have a decal

I bought one of these a few weeks ago and am impressed. Seems like a better value than Yeti etc.

actual dimensions from the literature are 30.2" x 16.4" outside weight 31lbs

To be honest (and I have indeed gone to Sams and looked at these up close) if I didn't already own a Yeti that I bought before these came out I would buy this instead and save the coin.
