Default Baitwell cooler

Move over Yeti, Engel, Grizzly, Coleman etc. If your boat has more bait/live wells than you need just fill them full of ice and beer and save the deck space. Scout, Key West and some others foam around their bait wells and use fairly thick vacuum bagged hatches. First, plug the drains to prevent warm air from getting in. Here is one of the bait wells in my Scout Costa after 49 hours loaded with a 20 pound grocery store bag of ice and a 12 pound ice block, 18 beers and a jug of water. The beer was pre-chilled, the bait well was not. I have experimented with the bait well as a cooler in my 22' Bay boat using a 30 pound block of ice and had it last as long as 4 days. Today will determine the validity as we "rotate" the beer in the interest of science, research and Football. Go Tigers!
