Wow. That story brings back a few memories! I remember when my parents caught my sister smoking cigs at about 14 years old. She thought she was such a bad ass, of course. Dad sat down with her at the table and a pack of unfiltered Chesterfields and said you're going to smoke the entire pack and I'm going to watch. So yeah, she's trying to be all cool and stuff... one cig gone, lights another, then another, then starts turning green and before she could finish the 3rd cig runs to the bathroom and pukes her guts up. Kind of cured her of smoking until much later in life.

I can see the same thing with alcohol, just to the point the kid pukes... but not ODing them like that.

Jesus,
What if NOONE had seen this and there was no call .
I'm guessing that dad would have learned a lesson he didn't anticipate.
I get what he was trying to do, but dayum. How stupid can you be.
He's actually lucky.

I feel for the guy and his son. I bet there is nothing the legal system can do to him which would make him feel any worse than knowing he almost killed his own son. There have been so many times I have disciplined my kids & hoped I had gotten my message across sufficiently, but also worried I hadn't gone too far. As a father, I know I'm not perfect. I do my best, but I know I make mistakes sometimes. I'm just thankful I've been fortunate enough not to end up in a position like this. There have been so many times I've looked back at something I did & thought, "Damn, that was dumb. What was I thinking??" I'm so glad it wasn't ever in a case like this one, involving my kids' safety.

Friends of my parents did the same thing to their kid when they caught him smoking.
"You wanna smoke? OK. Here's a pack. Sit down and start smokin!"
