Default with a heavy heart I had to put my dog down today

wasn't sure I could type this, but I had to put my lab down this afternoon. 14 years we were together. he would follow me everywhere, it would be hot as hell and I would be working on something and he would come out and lay near me.
this past 4th of july he had a heat stroke, because when I left on the boat he would stay on the dock until I came back. I don't care if it was 10 hours he wouldn't leave that dock until I came back. damn, he was hard headed. One time I took the boat and put it on the trailer so I took it around to the marina. When I got home he was no where to be found, so I thought he has gotten out. I got in the truck and drove around the neighborhood looking for him, cussing the whole time, I was so pissed thinking he had gotten out. So I finally came back to the house and the wife said did you check the dock, sure enough he was out there waiting on me. shit.

anyway he had cancer, was eating him up, and he couldn't hardly walk due to his hips, really sucks because this is the time of the day we would hang together. I have worked from home for the last 14 years and he has been here with me, going to be lonely going forward.
sucks big time, miss my buddy.

gonna miss him..........

Damn I'm really sorry. We had to do the same thing 2 weeks ago w/ our 15 year old lab. I never thought it would be as hard as it was, one of the hardest things I have ever done so I know exactly how you feel. I still feel some guilt that I could have waited a little longer b4 putting her down but she seemed to be in a lot of pain and had not eaten in 5 days so I guess it was her time to go.

We had her cremated and have her ashes on the mantle in my man cave. Every time I look at the box I feel like I am going to cry.

So so so sorry for your loss, it will take some time to get over it I know.

Man, I always hate reading these sort of posts. But, having gone through this the only words of comfort I can give is time. Lost my buddy of 15 years 6 years ago and it takes time to get over it. Have a new dog now, but there will never be another PJ. I named him PJ for Patrick Junior, my name is Patrick! Kind of funny huh! Think about the awesome life you gave him and how thankful he is for that. Hang in there buddy, it does get easier.

There is nothing anybody can say that will help you right now. Been there several times and every time I swore I wouldn't do it again. But we did. There are a lot of us here that are tearing up knowing what you and yours are going thru right now. God bless man.

Beautiful dog. So sorry to hear that.

One of the toughest things you ever have to do. Chokes me up just thinking about it.

Wish I have more to offer than words. Took us about 1 1/2 years to get a rescue after we had to put Holly down.
It's tough and although time is the only thing that will dull the pain, the pain will is remain.
It is an indication of the amount of love you had for him.

What is his name? Sorry I can not state that in the past tense because he will always be with you.
(Gotta go, got something in my eyes)

I am another dog owner who has also lost my good buddy...

Nothing I could say will make things better, but time will help ease the pain.

Sorry to hear about your loss..

As hard as it is for us to do, just remember, there is no one they would rather have next to them, as they say good-bye, then us, the owners.
