Default "Choke hold" ruled cause of death in NY arrest

http://myfox8.com/2014/08/01/new-yor...-was-homicide/

Let me be the first to admit, I was wrong. While I do not agree with the hold being called a "choke hold", the medical examiner has ruled the hold the cause of the cigarette salesman's death, and it has been ruled a homicide.

I was wrong. NYPD will pay, and my badge is tarnished.

Get some varnish on that tarnish and it'll buff right out.

It takes a big man to admit he was wrong. I do it all day long. Good for you.

Your badge isn't tarnished. You did not kill the guy.

Your badge isn't tarnished. Your post here is a class act. I just think in all of or professions, sometimes we get lost in the forest because of the trees. Something that looks obvious to everyone else isn't to us because we are too involved in it.

Been there done that. Very few people admit when they are wrong.

I don't think the cops killed the guy, if he could talk he could breath, he had asthma or some other condition that killed or contributed to his death. (IMO)

Good on you to admit you were wrong. I thought it was excessive from the get go. From your posts, I really do believe you mean to protect and serve with dignity. Keep up the good work.

I dont agree or disagree with what went down i am young to only 31 and grew up and live 30 minutes from NY. Sometimes emotions over rule common sense at a moments time and reaction kicks in right or wrong, but i wouldnt say you killed anyone i would blame the 400 pounds of fat surrouding his heart that caused it you didnt put that shit there and the unsold half pack of newports he smoked . You could put me in a choke for an hour if i can talk i can breathe so doubt a normal human would die from that. did police over react yes especially in broad daylight with people in the streets lol there was absolutley nooooo threat. That fat guy may have been big but slow and could hardly walk, doubt he was running from anyone or could have beaten 6 younger athletic looking cops. I wish the world would get rid of guns and everyone go back to fists instead. I live next to bridgeport and shootings and streets are as bad as any. All you can do is build yourself back up thats all. Badge would only be tarnished if you were not dealing with a lifetime criminal. my advice is to be the second guy to jump in next time sit a couple out.

He was over under or never connected, never choking the guy, he had is arm across his neck asserting head/upper body control.

He never made any connection in any way shape or form and imposed choke. The media is why it's being called a "choke hold."

You're going to argue with the ME?

Might want to get on the witness list, NYPD is going to need some expert witnesses.

I think you're caught up in the minutiae...You, and I and the media, and the ME, and the Mayor, and the Police Commissioner don't share the same vocabulary when it comes to "choke holds". I still don't know anything about "choke holds" but if I remember correctly you don skinny clothes and roll around on the ground with other men.

No offense...but I'm going with everyone else.

To me, common sense says in the video that they choked him.

Not sure how anyone can refute that. (please refer to the vid)

And Beatcop, no need to come down on yourself. You were not there, and probably wanted to give the benefit of the doubt.

As said earlier, lost in the forest because of the trees. Plus not being able to admit being wrong.

No choke was ever imposed, it's that simple. He never made any connection to impose choke, arm was off neck while he was still talking, that cop did not choke him.

How ever he did it, he did kill him. At least almost everyone but you concedes that.

Again, society no longer turns a blind eye to this type of behavior from LEO's now that it is recorded. Hard to cover it up anymore.

I'll write it again and this time with less sarcasm. Do you think perhaps the ME's definition of "choke" and the legal interpretation of "choke" is different than whatever you were taught in MMA school?
