Two things:

One - how does millions of gallons of gasoline that is already produced jump .20 cents per litre over night because the was a terrible storm some 2,000 miles away in a different country????????????????? LIKE WHAT THE #*%@ IS GOING ON?????????????

And - why the hell should our prices go through the roof when we have all the oil any country could possibly want??????????????

Two - why should the price of gas/diesel and petroleum products go up at all because of a really bad storm? Yes I know that reserves where wiped out, BUT doesn't petroleum companies have insurance????????? Wouldn't it be standard policy to claim lose of revenue when making a claim like this????????? I would have to figure so.............therefore the petroleum companies are double dipping and therefore committing fraud.

My father spoke with the manager of one of the fuel depot's in spartanburg, word has it that there is going to be a temporary shortage throughout the atlantic seaboard in the coming days if the refinery's aren't able to get back online. Granted, this is third party information, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

what gets me the most is how there can be such a huge difference in price/gallon of fuel from one town to the next, when both feed off of the same pipeline and are serviced by the same delivery trucks. My hometown gas is currently 2.74/gal, next town over, which is farther away from the pipeline, is 2.60. now that makes no phucking sense at all.

Any gouging is being done at the retail level. They're taking advantage of the panic that seems to be occuring.

Well could it be maybe, uh, I don't know,....... Supply and Demand? If you pay any attention to the news, which you obviously do because you know about the "terrible storm" 2000 miles away (are you sure you didn't mean kilometers? ), then you might have heard at some point all of the references to how much US comsuned oil comes from the Gulf of Mexico. Most figures are in the neighborhood of 25%. Simple economics tells most folks that if you cut your production by 25% of a product that is consumed in astronomical amounts, then the effect on price will be felt immediately.

1.) You may or may not have noticed that there have been several oil rigs literally blown off of their moorings.----Our capacity to get it out of the ground has been affected.
2.) You may or may not have noticed that many refineries in the impact zone have been damaged to the point of being inoperable, and many more have no power to operate.----If we could get it out of the ground, we can't refine it.
3.) You may or may not have noticed that virtually all of the roadways, major and secondary, have been damaged or destroyed.----If we could get it out of the ground and refine it, we couldn't truck it out of the area.

Do you get it now?

And TraderVic has another good point with his gouging comment.

What is it you don't understand about the price increases? Did you actually think it wasn't going to happen. Don't you remember last year at this time when the Gulf got lit up with bad storms that the price of oil/gas was affected?

I guess I just don't understand the point in complaining about how hot it is outside in the middle of August. Doesn't it get hot every August?

Find something else to complain about.

Not totally a retail issue, wholesale prices have jumped that much.

They are probably trying to drive the supply down by making the prices higher, atleast that is what a senior oil exec eluded too on Fox News today?

Governor Easley of our state said that North carolina is running low on gas and that we need to conserve gas now. He said we usually get our gas from the gulf from two pipelines and that both pipe lines have been shut down because of no electricity in that area.

Racetrac in Greensboro does not have any gas and another gas station where there's a costco, said he will be out of gas tonight and that a truck is suppose to deliver more tomorrow.

As far as I believe your comment above indicates your position on the farm - are you one of the sheep or a sheep herder?

Have you ever notice that our governments don't like to get caught up in the middle of oil company issues with the general public or media...........wonder why?

Sorry but you missed point no. 4
4.) If there is no vehicles on the roads (because they are all flooded out) then there is zero comsumption of gasoline or diesel and therefore zero need for gasoline or diesel at this time. Therefore our prices should not be sky rocketing and nor should there be a state of PANIC as one so stated. But marketers do earn the keep from time to time by informing the media a bunch of bull........... .

Stockman oil out of spartanburg has been completely cut off. Unfortunately they service a large portion of the privately owned stations throughout the upstate (hotspot, pumpers, spinx, ect.). Laurens and Clinton are no better. The good news is that most of the depots run by the big brand name companies seem to be fine. I filled up last night in Clinton at 3.79/gal, and got 12 gallons in cans just bo be sure I could get to the game and back this weekend. I had planned on bringing the boat up to clemson and going to Keowee on sunday, but as of right now that is out.

I thought of taking the boat out too, but doesn't look like I will.

Rumors are running amuck in Anderson.........as of right now we have 2 good ones

I have heard our high school football game Friday night has been cancelled (it's an away game and the team has to travel an hour and twenty minutes).........the second one is they are considering cancelling school Friday and Tuesday (Monday is a holiday) due to the gas problem. This is 3rd hand info......we'll see.

This is getting out of hand

I was planning to drive from Cocoa Beach, FL to Wilmington, NC this Saturday and back to FL Monday. How is the availability of gas in the Carolina's looking for this weekend.

I don't mind buying premium if I have to (Dodge Hemi Durango likes high test!)

Blytheville Arkansas (just south of the Missouri bootheal on IH-55). Many stations out of fuel. Prices range(d) from 2.95 to 3.25 for regular. Jet A and 100 octane Avgas are becoming outrageous. This is very bad for my aerial contractors.

WRK2HRD - 9/3/2005 3:31 AM

You all think you have it bad?

That is just out and out greedy gouging by that dealer WRK2HRD. You and all the people from that area should remember that when the prices do roll back. And they will. Put his as* out of business (and anyone like him - one at a time) when this has passed. Someone should ralley the troops down there at the right time. Also, everyone should be writing your states District Attorney about the individuals price gouging. Who knows, you may get lucky.
